Mercy Is At A Crossroads…
|
|
Thank you to all who answered the call to action and have given to Mercy in her most critical time of need.
We are halfway to reaching our year-end goal of $100,000 to receive an additional $100,000 matching gift from an anonymous donor! While that's great progress, there is still more to be done!
Please consider giving a gift to Mercy to help us meet our goal by December 31.
|
|
Are you 70½ or older? Consider making a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) to Mercy from your IRA to fulfill your required minimum distribution (RMD) this year. This is a great way to support Mercy and taking advantage of tax benefits!
PLEASE NOTE:
If you received your appeal letter in the mail and it was addressed to the wrong alumna, we are so sorry! We assure you that we know your name! Unfortunately, there was a mix up on an unknown section of letters at the printing company we use for large mailings and some letters ended up in the wrong envelopes.
Please know that you are a truly valued alumna of Mercy and we extend our sincerest apologies for this mishap. Feel free to let us know if you were affected and we will try to make it right.
Contact Bekah Paige, Director of Development, at
bpaige@mercyhs.org
or 415-334-7941 with any issues.

Alumnae Directory Edit
Members from the Class of 1976 got together on November 23 at Zio Fraedo’s Restaurant in Pleasant Hill, CA. Thanks to this event, it came to our attention that an alumna was incorrectly listed as deceased in the Alumnae Directory. We are happy to share with all alumnae, but especially the Class of 1976, that
Eugenia (Gigi) Betta '76 is alive and well! Our sincerest apologies for not catching this error.

Evans '64 on South Africa

Read more about the different emotions she felt, the fears she overcame, and how the “known unknown” was explained in South Africa.

Lang '17 Reducing Single Use Plastics in Boba Culture
Galina Lang '17 is a full-time undergraduate student, majoring in advertising and minoring in entrepreneurship and innovation. She is also a part-time boba barista who is working on a startup to reduce single use plastic waste in the boba tea industry. She was influenced by a research paper she wrote her freshman year in college regarding plastic pollution. Her creation, the
BobaMate: The Boba Bottle, redesigns the way people drink boba tea and therefore bridges sustainability with convenience. “I believe boba tea brings people of all backgrounds together...and that
BobaMate can continue doing this while creating a more sustainable earth.”
In order to bring this project to life, Galina and her team need to reach their
Kickstarter fund goal of $45,000 by January 2, 2020 to begin producing the Boba Bottles. Because of the unique and custom made design of the Boba Bottle, their manufacturer needs to create a mold for the product. Without the mold, they are unable to produce the product. Mold fees are extremely costly, so without your help, they are unable to pay this fee.
With almost 200 backers, and 15% of the goal already completed, Galina and her team are well on their way to creating a more sustainable bottle for boba tea, but they cannot do it without you!
Learn more about Galina’s inspiring creation and join the rest of the Mercy community by backing
BobaMate and making your pledge today.

How do you live out Mercy’s mission every day?
What values from Mercy are you bringing to your community? How do you address the critical concerns of the Sisters of Mercy—volunteering in your church community, donating time to the homeless, assisting as a mentor, advocating for the marginalized and disenfranchised?
We want to share your “Mercy” to inspire others to do the same!
Please share your story for
Mercy In Our World by emailing Georgia Wasley '09, Alumnae Development Officer, at

Alumnae Library Volunteers Needed
We would like volunteers to come in after school in Mercy's library to meet with students, proctor make-up tests, and keep our library open as a study area for students. We also would love to have alumnae on campus in our library during lunch time. There is no prior experience necessary in library work, just a willingness to be with our students and watch over them.
We are in need of volunteers in the afternoons on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays beginning at 3:15 p.m. and every school day from 11-1 p.m. If you are interested in learning more and/or volunteering in our library for a few days, one day a month, one day a week, or more, please email
Kathryn Ann Dougery or call her at 415-334-0525 x 142.
