It's been a wonderful couple of weeks welcoming new and returning students back to school! Get ready for the 2024-25 school year filled with exciting projects, new friendships, learning and growth in the classroom, and beyond. We are excited to introduce a new initiative for the 2024-25 school year called Community Learning Days (CLDs), in response to our community’s desire to provide more opportunities to bring students together across all our high schools. CLDs offer a day of choice and flexibility in learning for Da Vinci families enrolled at Communications, Connect High, Design, RISE, and Science. Da Vinci Design Recognized as a Top 10 Charter School in CA for Boosting College and Career Success by the California Charter Schools Association (CCSA)

In the recent California Charter Schools Association 2024 “Portrait of the Movement” study, the association recognized 10 exceptional charter schools in California whose focus on college and career preparation has achieved incredible results for students. Da Vinci Design was recognized for its CTE-completion rates with 78% of its Black student graduates completing a CTE pathway, one of the state's highest rates of all charter high schools in 2022. The report also made special mention about how thoughtfully Da Vinci Design layers career preparation into its school structure.

A Teamwork Approach to Professional Development

Ask any teacher here at Da Vinci what, aside from the students, is their favorite aspect about working here, and without fail they will mention the support they receive.

Our site leaders and teachers all work tirelessly to support and sustain the efforts of the whole staff and, by natural consequence, the students that we serve. This school year, returning teachers receive 20 days of professional development (PD), while new teachers receive 23 days of PD to collaborate across schools, grow in their profession, and learn new tools and resources. The average number of PD days that educators in schools across California receive is three days. This is one of many ways that Da Vinci educators model lifelong learning for students.

Training for the Future of Work

At Da Vinci, we continue to expand our career training opportunities so students gain employable skills that are aligned with workforce needs. 

This summer, Da Vinci hosted six career training clinics providing 118 students with hands-on career learning experiences. The clinics included Advanced Manufacturing, Aviation, Futures Rewired, Future Shock, Television & Red Carpet Hosting, and Biz Camp. 

The Year Ahead for WDV Athletics

The 2024-25 Wiseburn Da Vinci Athletics program is gearing up for another great year! The majority of our teams will continue to participate in the highly competitive Pioneer League, facing off against high schools from Torrance, El Segundo and Lawndale. After two outstanding seasons, the Boys Basketball, Cross Country, and Track and Field programs have been elevated to the top-ranked Bay League competing with Mira Costa, Redondo, Peninsula, and Palos Verdes.

We're also thrilled to welcome Jasiri Daire and Dana Frelow to our Cross Country program. Jasiri is coming on board as the new Junior Varsity coach and Dana as an Assistant Coach to the Varsity team. They are already bringing fresh energy and expertise to our teams.

These tours are designed for community members to have the opportunity to see and learn more about the three high schools at Da Vinci's campus at 201 N. Douglas Street.
