Growing Towards Sustainability
Your Library Celebrates Earth Month
Seed Library
The SSPL Seed Library opens to Saratoga Springs City School District residents on Thursday April 11th – the same day as our Budget Vote. Stop by the Information Desk and ask to see our seed offerings. The Seed Library opens to the remainder of our community on Friday April 12th and will be located on the Main Floor near the New and Popular Fiction collection.
Community Garden
In order to support our Seed Library, the Saratoga Springs Public Library will have a seed saving garden in the Pitney Meadows Community Garden. We will use seeds from our collection and plan to harvest additional seeds in the fall.
Library of Things Collection Grows
The SSPL Library of Things is moving beyond WiFi hotspots, children's activity kits, museum passes and Djembe drums. This month, look for our new lending library of games, cake pans, garden tools, and more! Check out our Library of Things here.
Saratoga Sustainability Fair!
Come visit us at the Saratoga Sustainability Fair on Saturday, April 13th, from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Case Center on the Skidmore College Campus. Admission is free, and we can't wait to see you there!

SaratogaREADS!
Programming Continues and
Skidmore Event Rescheduled
Unfortunately, our Keynote Event originally scheduled for March 23rd had to be rescheduled due to the spring storm. Our conversation with members of Henrietta Lacks' family will now be the SaratogaREADS! Capstone Event, and will take place Saturday, April 20th from 2-3 p.m. at Skidmore College's Gannett Auditorium.
In recognition of SaratogaREADS! 20th year, the Saratoga Springs community looked back into our archives and voted to revisit one our previous titles for our 2024 Community Read. By popular vote, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot was chosen. Through our programming this March & April, we will delve into a variety of the book’s themes - sexism, racism, classism, poverty, inequality, ethics, medicine, and more. To check out all of our SaratogaREADS! programming, including our Capstone Event, please visit www.saratogareads.org.
