The library will be updating our staff-oriented library systems on Thursday, August 1 through Tuesday, August 6. We're excited for the change, because it'll help us serve our community better, but we ask for your patience during the transition as we navigate any challenges, expected and unexpected, during this change.
Here are some dates to remember for these transitions:
On Thursday, August 1 (4 PM on) through August 3, the library will be doing manual, offline checkouts during these days. You will need your card during this time since we will not be able to look up your account while we are in transition.
You will be able to:
- Check out items at the library and pick up items from the hold shelf.
- Use online services such as Libby and Kanopy, and databases such as Consumer Reports, Mango Language Learning, Niche Academy, etc...
- Use our public access computers, use our WiFi, print and copy documents, and send faxes.
The following services will not be available:
- Placing new holds on items
- Renewing items
- Accessing our catalog on our website and through the app, RCLS Go
- Updating patron account information, including paying fines or lost book fees
- Processing new library cards
The library will be closed to patrons on August 5 and August 6 to stress test the new system, resolve any initial growing pains, and conduct further staff training with our new system.
Please read this letter from our director, Dan Perkins, to learn more about the change, and how it will affect you.

Saturday Morning Book Club's August pick
|
The Saturday Morning Book Club will have their next meeting on Saturday, August 24 at 10:30 a.m. They'll be discussing Beyond the Point by Claire Gibson.
Duty. Honor. Country. That’s West Point’s motto, and every cadet who passes through its stone gates vows to live it. But on the eve of 9/11, as Dani, Hannah and Avery face four grueling years ahead, they realize they’ll only survive if they do it together.
Everyone knows Dani is going places. With athletic talent and a brilliant mind, she navigates West Point’s predominantly male environment with wit and confidence, breaking stereotypes and embracing new friends.
Hannah’s grandfather, a legendary Army general, offers a stark warning about the dangers that lie ahead, but she moves forward anyway, letting faith guide her path. When she meets her soul mate at West Point, the future looks perfect, just as planned.
Wild child Avery moves fast and doesn’t mind breaking a few rules (and hearts) along the way. But she can’t outpace her self-doubt, and the harder she tries, the further it leads her down a treacherous path.
The world—of business, of love, and of war—awaits Dani, Hannah, and Avery beyond the gates of West Point. These three women know that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. But soon, that adage no longer rings true—for their future, or their friendship. As they’re pulled in different directions, will their hard-forged bond prevail or shatter?
Beyond the Point is a heartfelt look at how our closest friends can become our fiercest battle buddies. After all, the greatest battles we fight rarely require a uniform.

Adult Fiction Book Club's July selection
|
On Monday, August 12, at 3:30 p.m., the adult fiction book club will meet in our reading room to discuss Big Stone Gap by Adriana Trigiani.
Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, the tiny town of Big Stone Gap is home to some of the most charming eccentrics in the state. Ave Maria Mulligan is the town's self-proclaimed spinster, a thirty-five year old pharmacist with a "mountain girl's body and a flat behind." She lives an amiable life with good friends and lots of hobbies until the fateful day in 1978 when she suddenly discovers that she's not who she always thought she was. Before she can blink, Ave's fielding marriage proposals, fighting off greedy family members, organizing a celebration for visiting celebrities, and planning the trip of a lifetime-a trip that could change her view of the world and her own place in it forever.
Brimming with humor and wise notions of small-town life, Big Stone Gap is a gem of a book with a giant heart. . . . - Goodreads
