Join us the first and third Wednesday of the month for a professional networking forum conducted in a safe and comfortable environment that's conducive to developing new relationships and developing skills and strategies to help in your career transition. Meetings include a presentation and hands-on workshop on topics relevant to career transition, guest speakers, access to hiring managers, small group breakout rooms to network, and one-on-one coaching guidance. This monthly program concludes in June, and there will be a new topic covered in each session.

This class will explore Restorative Yin postures done close to the ground to promote deep rest and encourage physical, mental, and emotional relaxation. Well, here’s a fun, no-fear introductory painting workshop that will give you the confidence to face down that intimidating blank canvas. Artist Jeanne Staples will demystify the oil painting process and help participants learn some of the basic techniques that artists have been using for more than 500 years.
All materials will be provided, but please bring a clean empty tuna or cat food can for the mineral spirits that will be used.

In poet Donald Nitchie’s writing workshop, participants will have an opportunity to build a poem prompted and inspired by poetry that Donald will choose for the exercise. This month we will be learning how to filet a fluke, a light fish that is easily the star of any meal.

At the dawn of the Civil Rights Movement, African American artists were inspired to create amazing works and advocate for fundamental change in the art world. After being marginalized and ignored for so long, they demanded greater representation of their work in museums, as well as the inclusion of African American scholars and curators among the ranks of museum professionals. Art historian Janet Mandel will present the rich contributions these pioneers made to American culture and share some of the work that continues to astonish art lovers today.

Chef Look is back this month to make a special dinner for a special occasion: his birthday! Join him as he deconstructs the iconic Reuben sandwich and pieces it back together, one crazy element at a time. He'll start by making two grilled cheese and sauerkraut sandwiches (with homemade rye waffles as the bread), which will act as the "buns" for a juicy, flavorful corned beef meatloaf patty. As if that wasn’t enough, Chef Look will show you how to make a classic Reuben sauce to fill all the nooks and crannies of the waffle “buns.” Be prepared for this flavor explosion as we burst into summer.

Beach BeFrienders is a collaboration between the Vineyard Conservation Society, Island Libraries, Island DWPs and the MV Refuse District, and is dedicated to tending our beloved Island beaches.

In her book Renegade Teacher: Inside School Walls with Standards and the Test, former urban school teacher Dr. Katherine Scheidler shows how schools can better serve all students. In the mid-1990s, Dr. Scheidler moved from the classroom to the epicenter of school change as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment, and Professional Development in several Massachusetts school districts. In her book, Scheidler illustrates the challenges and victories of standards and testing for all students, and she discusses how schools must still change to better support those classroom heroes who work every day with children.

Watercolors have the reputation for being difficult to work with, but the key is knowing when and how to control the paint, and when to let it be. Join us to experiment with lifting, splatter, layering, watercolor washes, and dry brush techniques. We will be using artist-grade Winsor & Newton pan paints and Arches watercolor paper to create two or three small landscape vignettes of a lighthouse, a field of flowers, and a sunset scene. No experience is necessary, come and explore this versatile and vibrant medium!

Inkjet Cartridge Recycling Program | |
Support our local Vineyard League by recycling ink jet cartridges. The League of Women Voters of Martha’s Vineyard has drop boxes for collecting used printer inkjet cartridges in all six towns, including at the Edgartown Library. Cartridges are sent to a recycler, keeping them out of landfills. Please note, inkjet cartridges are the only kind that can be accepted.
