New USPS Mail Drop Box

For your convenience, there is now a USPS mail dropoff box by the library's southern entrance. Mail pickup is at 1pm daily, except Sundays.

The wide array of programs at the Edgartown Library are funded in large part by the Friends of the Edgartown Free Public Library. The Friends are a volunteer organization whose mission is to raise funds and support the library and its programs. [In Person] Vinyasa Power Yoga (all levels)

Vinyasa (a practice designed to help you heal while keeping you in peak physical shape) incorporates elements of strength building, making it a dynamic experience. If you have a yoga mat, please bring it with you. The library will have a limited number of mats available for use. All levels are welcome; each pose is guided from the foundation to the full expression.

[Online] 50+ Job Seekers Networking Group

If you are seeking a new career direction, unemployed, re-entering the job market after a long employment gap, or recently retired and looking for your "encore career", this networking group is perfect for you!


Join us every first and third Wednesday of the month for a professional networking forum conducted in a safe and comfortable environment that's conducive to developing new relationships and developing skills and strategies to help in your career transition. Meetings include a presentation and hands-on workshop on topics relevant to career transition, guest speakers, access to hiring managers, small group breakout rooms to network, and one-on-one coaching guidance. This program will continue through June, and there will be a new topic covered in each session.

[In Person] Drop-in Knitting Group, with Cindy Bonnell

Master knitter Cindy Bonnell presides over a sociable group of knitters on Wednesday afternoons upstairs in the library's Board Room. Experts and aspiring knitters of all levels of experience are welcome to bring their projects and drop in for support, inspiration, and advice.

[In Person] Restorative Reset, with Jelisa Difo

Wednesdays

5:30pm

This class will explore Restorative Yin postures done close to the ground to promote deep rest and encourage physical, mental, and emotional relaxation. Appropriate for all levels, restorative yoga is practiced at a slow pace and focuses on long holds, stillness, and deep breathing. A limited number of yoga mats and props are available; if you have your own, please bring them with you.

[In Person] Edgartown Candidate Forum

Tuesday, April 4

6:30pm

The public is invited to attend as candidates present their positions and answer questions from voters. There are only two contested races in Edgartown this year: the Board of Assessors and the School Committee. This forum will be hosted by the League of Women Voters of Martha’s Vineyard. If you are unable to attend, the program will be recorded and made available on the LWV-MV website and later streamed on MVTV.

[In Person] Dough Series: Bao Buns, with Chef Look

Saturday, April 8

2pm - 4pm

If you’ve ever been to a dim sum restaurant, you’ve probably seen these beautiful steamed buns moving around the room being offered to diners. Those soft, delicious buns are called bao, and this month Chef Look will be teaching everyone how to make a simple version of the dough as well as a classic oyster sauce-based BBQ meat filling. Bao in Chinese means package, or guarantee, and Chef Look guarantees that you’ll leave this program with a fluffy package of pure joy.

[In Person] Both Sides Book Club: The Measure by Nikki Erlick

Led by Edgartown resident Deb Daley, this book club will explore literature that may shift your perspective or encourage you consider an alternate viewpoint. The club will meet on the second Tuesday of every month. April's selection is The Measure by Nikki Erlick, a novel in which the author asks a simple but irresistible question: if you had the choice, would you want to know how long you had to live?

[Online] Chef Look Cooks: Bao Buns

We’re back again this month with a dim sum classic, bao buns. However, when Chef Look cooks at home, he can’t help but make things interesting. With Easter behind us, we’ll experiment with a unique and delicious way to use up some of your excess holiday ham. Mixing leftover chopped ham with pineapple, pickled jalapenos, and cheese, we’ll recreate Chef Look's favorite pizza combination in bao form. Chef Look will prove once and for all that you truly can put anything in a bao bun and call it dinner.

[In Person] Mending for Sustainability

Whether you’re a stitching master or have never sewn before, come and join the EPL’s monthly mending club. This group is perfect for anyone looking for ways to extend the life of their favorite denim, get a few more seasons out of their coziest sweater, or generally contribute to sustainability by making sure their clothes don't end up in landfills. We will have a large array of mending and sewing supplies available for use, several how-to books for guidance, and expertise from longtime sewers. All experience levels are welcome.

[Online] Expedition: Bigfoot, with Ronny LeBlanc

Ronny LeBlanc stars in two shows for Discovery+ & Travel Channel: Expedition Bigfoot and Paranormal Caught On Camera. Ronny is a globally recognized figure in the world of the paranormal, an independent researcher, and author of the critically acclaimed and best-selling book Monsterland: Encounters With UFOs, Bigfoot and Orange Orbs. His book details the history and connection between those three phenomena, highlighting his experience in a research area called "Monsterland" in central Massachusetts.

[In Person] Murder Mystery Cocktail Hour

During this hour of puzzles and intrigue, it will be up to participants to examine the clues, evaluate the suspects, and find the thread that ties the case together. Can you unravel each web of lies and clues to solve the mystery? Join us for Hunt A Killer’s immersive who-done-it game. Spirits and appetizers will be provided as we work as a team to solve the murder.

[In Person] Macramé Plant Hanger Workshop

Though this may cause some flashbacks of bell bottoms and tie-dye, we will approach the 13th-century art of macramé with a minimalist and modern approach. With a few simple knots, you will leave not only with a beautifully handcrafted plant hanger, but also a potted spider plant that will add a chic touch to any room. All crafting abilities welcome.

A History of Hollywood Censorship, with Brian Rose

From its very beginnings in the 1890s, motion pictures have delighted the public...and upset civic and religious authorities who felt that movies needed to be regulated to protect “innocent” minds and discourage immorality. From the Hays Code (which, for more than three decades, set up strict rules of language and conduct for studio films), to the MPAA film rating system of 1968, to our current rating system, this presentation will look at 125 years of movie censorship and the many ways Hollywood has tried to navigate this ongoing issue.

Library Book Boxes

A monthly library subscription service

Want to find your next good book, plus get some cool items to keep? Sign up for the library's monthly subscription box for kids and teens ages 8 and older. Here's how it works:


  1. Fill out the subscription form on our website (the form will go live on April 15, with limited signups available).
  2. Wait. This is the hard part! Subscriptions will be filled at the beginning of each month.
  3. Pick up your Book Box at the library. Participants will receive an email when their box is ready for pickup. Each box will contain two library materials, and the rest is yours to keep.
  4. Return the library materials after a month, then fill out a new form to sign up for the next month!

Story Walk at Sheriff’s Meadow Sanctuary

The Edgartown Library and Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation have partnered to bring you a story walk every month.

This self-guided activity takes place at the Sheriff's Meadow Sanctuary and is for children of all ages and their caregivers.

Inkjet Cartridge Recycling Program
Support our local Vineyard League by recycling ink jet cartridges. The League of Women Voters of Martha’s Vineyard has drop boxes for collecting used printer inkjet cartridges in all six towns, including at the Edgartown Library. Cartridges are sent to a recycler, keeping them out of landfills. Please note, inkjet cartridges are the only kind that can be accepted.
