Savannah, GA, August 22, 2022 - Live Oak Public Libraries supports student success inside and outside of the classroom with study tools, reference materials, and after-school programs that encourage creative and critical thinking. Youth can find homework help, reading resources, and skill-building for college and beyond.

The most important school supply is a library card! Students, families, and educators can get free access to a variety of informative resources, programs, and services through the Library.

Students can sign up for a free library card and connect with resources at their local library or online anytime from home or school. The Student PLAY (PINES Library Access for Youth) program provides automatic access for public school students to use their student number just like a library card – and PLAY accounts have no overdue fees.

A library card is the key to open doors of opportunity to prepare for life outside of school – college, career, or even a driving test. At the library, students can discover books, use computers and Wi-Fi, or engage with innovative programming. Through digital resources online, youth can access one-on-one virtual tutoring, improve their writing skills, or practice for SAT or AP exams.

“Libraries play an important role in the education and development of children,” says Lola Shelton-Council, Interim Library Executive Director. “We have programs that serve students of all ages such as Teen Book Talks, STEM classes, DIY activities, and of course, Storytimes. Our libraries are safe spaces for children to hang out after school and connect with friends, explore the collection and resources for projects, or find a quiet place to study.”

Libraries provide a learning environment that fosters joyful exploration, encouraging students to research subjects that they are interested in. Libraries are welcoming and inclusive spaces for youth of all backgrounds to learn together.

A library card is the first step on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning. To learn more about resources and activities for students, please visit liveoakpl.org.
