February 28, 2022

I hope your month was as productive as ours and that you are continuing your journey in making a difference. Having been in the public service industry most of my life, I have been fortunate to surround myself with amazing people who have a similar passion and drive to make life better for the people they serve. As I have mentioned before, switching from the public sector to the nonprofit sector, my philosophy has not changed and you, as a community member, remain the focus. Your team members at Valley JCC are caring and passionate individuals that I am so honored to lead as we build something special. I have mentioned the staff and volunteers time and time again and want to make sure you know who the people are that make it all happen:

  • Ellen Cohen, Adult Program Director
  • Chereen Peretti, Director of Operations at Today’s Montessori
  • The Teaching Staff at Today’s Montessori
  • Rick Lupert, Communications Associate
  • Esther Ravid, Volunteer Social Media Coordinator
  • Shay Diamant, Volunteer Administrator, JCC Maccabi Games

And our two newest team members:

  • Lois Julien, Marketing and Program Coordinator (March 1, 2022)
  • Jason Moser, Sports Coordinator (February 20, 2022)

Last month I mentioned some of the content that we are working on. Here’s an update:

  1. Tryouts for Maccabi 2022 started on February 20th and continue into early March. This year we were limited by the JCC of North America to just 25 total spots. This small allocation is quite upsetting as it only allows us to take 2 teams to San Diego in July. Along with other delegations, we hope these allocations increase next year and that the games return to pre-pandemic numbers. A shout out to Delegation Head Shay Diamant and all of the wonderful coaches.
  2. Our first season of the Wayne League Adult Basketball Program started on February 20th with 20 teams at de Toledo High School. We currently have 12 teams on the waiting list and are working to secure an additional location.
  3. Registration for the Wayne League Youth Basketball Program is now underway for 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U for both the Spring Season and Summer Season. This league allows coaches to bring their existing/readymade team into competition. Based upon signups and securing additional facilities, we will add other age groups into the mix.
  4. Our friends at Super Soccer Shots have extended a $35 off promo code to JCC Families for registration into their spring soccer training programs.
  5. Poetry and Art Event presented by Wendy Shugar takes place on March 15th at the Village at NorthRidge for both Adults and Youth. Bring a poem you like, talk about how poetry is art, learn how to paint using the pouring technique and create your own piece of art. Register by March 9th.
  6. On April 3rd join Valley JCC at the Day of Service Event presented by Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel. Register today.
  7. Planning continues for our Saturday, April 30th Virtual Gala. It will be a night of music, magic and giving. Thank you to our fantastic Fundraising Committee for all your hard work and dedication. This is going to be an amazing night! Please register and join the fun.

Please visit our website at www.valleyjcc.org for more information on all our wonderful programs, how to register, membership opportunities or to donate today.

Stay Safe,
