Pruning
All trees and shrubs can be pruned with the exception of spring flowering (lilacs, double flowering plum), maple, birch or elm.
Perennials (soft tissue plants that come from the ground each spring) should all be trimmed back at this time. View our Pruning Tips video.
Pest Prevention
Many pests and diseases overwinter on woody trees and shrubs in the form of eggs and spores. These are easily eliminated now with horticultural oil and/or lime sulphur.
Ideally products should be used at full concentration before trees and shrubs leaf out, however if buds are unfurling, follow the summer application rate on the bottle.
