COMMUNITY PROGRAMS

Available for one and all!

THE GROSS FAMILY CENTER FOR THE STUDY OF ANTISEMITISM AND THE HOLOCAUST presents the following:

DrRalphNurnberger image

THE ROTHCHILD DYNASTY:

Overcoming Anti-Semitism

Speaker: Dr. RALPH NUMBERGER

Sunday, MARCH 31, 11:00 am ET

FREE IN-PERSON; advance registration required

at Florida Atlantic University (FAU Boca)

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute

Friedberg Auditorium

777 Glades Road, Boca Raton 33431

The Rothschild family had lived in Frankfurt’s Jewish ghetto for 400 years. They earned their living by selling goods on the back of a donkey. By the mid-1800s they likely were the wealthiest family on the planet. Their enormous wealth enabled them to impact major events throughout Europe and the Middle East, including funding Wellington’s army against Napoleon, Britain’s abolition of slavery, control of the Suez Canal, and the railways in Austria and Germany.

LEVIS JCC SANDLER CENTER presents the following:

SINKABLE_Book-jacket-e1690236381945 image

SINKABLE with author Daniel Stone

Monday, APRIL 1, 3:30 pm ET

FREE VIRTUAL (NO registration required)

It’s one of the most beloved stories of all time, and it has the most gut-wrenching human themes: tragedy, trauma, and survival. But what came next? Sinkable is a sequel to the widely known Titanic story — not of a ship, but of a wreck, complete with a century’s worth of scientific, economic, and biological oddities. It’s a character-driven story about shipwrecks and the strange underworld of obsessive people who devote their lives to sunken ships. And it includes tons of fun stories about big ships, our mysterious oceans, and some wild CIA operations you’ve never heard of. National Geographic editor and Jewish author Daniel Stone takes audiences on an exciting deep-sea journey of mystery, discovery, and triumph with tales of ocean battles and eye-popping buried treasure. Geared toward a general audience, Stone answers the age-old question, what else on earth is still waiting to be discovered? Daniel Stone is a writer on science, history, and the environment.

BIRCHERS with author Matthew Dallek

Monday, APRIL 16, 3:30 pm ET

FREE VIRTUAL (NO registration required)

At the height of the John Birch Society’s activity in the 1960s, critics dismissed its members as a paranoid fringe. After all, “Birchers” believed that a vast communist conspiracy existed in America and posed an existential threat to Christianity, capitalism, and freedom. But as historian Matthew Dallek reveals, the Birch Society’s extremism remade American conservatism. Most Birchers were white professionals who were radicalized as growing calls for racial and gender equality appeared to upend American life. Conservative leaders recognized that these affluent voters were needed to win elections, and for decades the GOP courted Birchers and their extremist successors. The far right steadily gained power, finally toppling the Republican establishment. Birchers is a deeply researched and indispensable new account of the rise of extremism in the United States. Matthew Dallek is a historian and professor of political management at George Washington University.

Please join with us today at the Movies of Delray to see the film, "One Life" about how one person saved hundreds of children in WW II with the Kindertransport. It proves Rabbi Barry's adage that one person can make a difference by standing up and speaking out - doing the right thing! Meet us at 4 pm at the Movies of Delray to see the film.

Try us out on Tuesdays at 7 pm to learn a little about the Torah and Jewish people in history. This Tuesday, April 2, 7 pm on Zoom, we will discuss the parsha of Shemini together and watch a video of Rabbi Barry explaining this Torah portion in a rational manner.

Don't PASS OVER our L'Dor Va-Dor Passover Seder! Sunday, April 21st is the date at 1 pm ET at Flakowitz of Boynton's Banquet Hall - join together for traditions, music, blessings, stories, good food, good company, and more! We have limited seating, so don't miss out. Please CLICK HERE for more info.

Please share SHABBAT with us each Friday evening at 7 pm ET - in-person and virtually! This Friday, our First Friday Shabbat, we will celebrate those with April Birthdays and Anniversaries!

We welcome all to be a part of our L'Dor Va-Dor!

Help us to continue to serve the community

and carry on the legacy left by Rabbi Barry,

in his honor and memory!

"Dwell not on what has been lost, but rather, on what has been gained."
