Psalm 105:4 "Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.'
Where are you closest to God? Think about it.
When I was in high school I had the opportunity go on a backpacking trip where the group of us studied scripture, spent time alone with Christ, hiked for hours each day and shared openly with each other how we desired to grow closer to Christ. It was the first time in my life that I took the time to just be with God and was challenged to do so by the leaders of the group. That trip changed my life. It is because of that trip that I continue to seek Him when I see the mountains, when I am hiking, when I see the beautiful sunrises, trees swaying in the wind, and am in places where there are zero worldly distractions. To me the wilderness is God's beauty and where I feel closest to Him still today, even if that wilderness is in Kaplan's Woods or Rice Lake State Park.
On Sunday nights I hold a bible study for my high school friends. I often ask, "Where are you closest to God?"
When I ask others, I hear things like: In a boat on a lake, in my tree stand, in my living room chair reading my bible, at a coffee shop with friends, at camp or at bible study. I absolutely love hearing where others seek and feel Christ in their lives. It challenges me to find Him in those places as well.
Yet, Psalm 105:4 says "...seek his face always." To me, that means not just in those places but also in everything we do. So, that is my challenge. How can you and I "seek his face always?" - not just when we are in the wilderness, in our chair, on a boat in the lake or amongst certain friends but in everything. Let's continue this Lenten season by
recognizing and seeking Christ in all we do.
Prayer: God, wrap your loving arms around me today so that I can feel them in all I do. Help me recognize your face throughout my day and grow closer to you. Amen.
