We are finishing our first wave of testing in PM1 ELA and Math (Progress Monitoring Assessment #1 of 3 this year). Students that didn’t test will complete makeups this month. Tuesday, September 17th is the Civics EOC (End of Course exam) for 7th graders.
This year, we are in a much better position than last year with laptops. About 690 students have received their laptop with only 16 students who have not, due to a fine from last year. If students have a technical issue, please remind them to submit a student tech request through Launchpad. Also, please watch this video with your child to show them how to properly handle their digital device.
Congratulations to the Dance Team and our cast of The Wizard of Oz! We look forward to watching our all of our performing arts groups shine throughout the school year!
Please check Skyward in Classlink to view your child’s Progress Report. If your current email or cell phone number do not allow you to establish a Classlink account, please contact our Registrar at Michelle.Silva@ocps.net This means your contact information needs to be updated in Skyward. Also, in Classlink, you are able to follow along with your child’s coursework in Canvas.
Here are some tips to help your child finish the first quarter successfully:
- Be sure your child gets to school on time every day.
- Help your child learn how to prioritize and manage the classwork from all of their classes.
- Encourage your child to ask their teachers for extra support if they need it.
- Boost your child’s confidence. Middle schoolers can be hard on themselves.
We look forward to seeing you at Open House on Thursday, September 19th from 5:00 – 6:30 pm. Please come out to meet your child’s teachers. The Scholastic Book Fair will be open, Jeremiah’s will be on campus, and other Partners in Ed will be here as well.
Warm regards,
Jason Jiménez

Student Library Orientation and Before School Opportunity
Most of our ELA classes have been able to visit the library for orientation lessons and to check out books. We love seeing students’ excitement when they find a book they love. Now that students have completed the orientation lessons, they have the opportunity to visit the library before school to check out books, read, study, or choose some of the other activities like coloring, games, and puzzles.

September is Library Card Sign-Up Month!
Sign up for a library card with the Orlando Public Library.

Did you know that OCLS provides free classes and programs that include language learning, hobbies, technology, gaming, and more? They also provide Brainfuse (see below) for homework help and LinkedIn Learning for continuing education and career development.

FREE Virtual Tutoring through the Orange County Library's "Brainfuse" program
An additional resource for academic support is the Orange County Public Library's Brainfuse tutoring. Please take advantage of this.
The database opens at 2:00 p.m. through 11:00 p.m. 7 days a week, and tutors are ready to help with studying, preparing for an exam, evaluating research papers or documents or completing projects. Create an optional, free account to create an online study group, store homework assignments, class notes, and projects, and review previously saved tutoring sessions before a test.

Jets in the Library!
ELA classes have been coming to the library for orientation lessons and to check out books. After the library orientation lessons are completed, students can visit the library before school to check out books, read, study, or choose other activities like coloring, games, and puzzles. Throughout the year, teachers will sign up to bring their whole class to check out books and students will have the opportunity to earn the privilege to go to the library during lunch when they have finished eating.
Reminders - Media Center Policies:
- Students may check out up to three (3) books at a time.
- Books may be kept for two (2) weeks with the option to renew.
- Students are responsible for damaged or lost books.
