Last week we had our first Spirit Night of the year at Jeremiah’s in Waterford Lakes. Thank you to everyone who came out and participated. On September 4th, we will be having another Spirit Night at Jeremiah‘s. We hope to see you there!
On Thursday, August 29th, we have our dance team auditions and next week we will be having our auditions for the Wizard of Oz theater production. Our soccer team had their first game on Tuesday, August 27th against Discovery.
State testing is coming up next week and should be taken seriously by all students. Tuesday, September 3rd will be the ELA PM1 assessment and Thursday, September 5th will be the Math PM1. This data helps guide instruction, impact student replacement, and will also determine if students may need to be pulled from electives to receive additional support in reading and math. In this edition of Jets in Action, you will find the modified bell schedules for testing days. Please take the time before each testing day to speak with your student regarding the importance of the assessments and trying their best.
As a reminder, there is no school on Monday, September 2nd for Labor Day. We hope you enjoy the long weekend!

Legacy Middle School is seeking the support of families and the community to join our Student Advisory Committee (SAC) and Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) in its mission of helping students collaborate, innovate, and accelerate our students to success.
Our first SAC meeting of the year will take place on Tuesday, September 10 at 5:30pm in the media center. We will review important information regarding SAC, the school, and a motion for funding. When parents are actively involved, it fosters a sense of community and collaboration among families, teachers, and administrators. This can create a more supportive and engaging environment for students. Being part of the SAC/PTSA helps parents stay informed about school events, policies, and needs. It also provides a platform for parents to voice their concerns and ideas directly to the school administration.
The current PTSA officers will help guide you through the process, provide all materials, and send out the officer application.
Members of the nominating committee can run for office but are not required to.
If you would like to serve on the Legacy Middle School PTSA Nominating Committee please complete the following form LMS Nomination Form or email us at legacymiddleschoolptsa@gmail.com.
Thank you,
Legacy Middle School PTSA

Illegal passing of stopped school buses:
This is a quick reminder to all Orange County drivers about running through buses' stop arms during these early weeks of back-to-school. In 2021, the penalties for failing to stop for a school bus and passing a stopped school bus on the side where children enter and exit doubled. It is imperative that all motorists properly stop for school buses so all of our students can arrive at school or home safely.
| | |
Source: Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles
This is a troubling state-wide issue at the start of the new school year, so we ask our local community to be careful when approaching a stopped school bus. In a popular story which ran this past week from nearby Hillsborough County (Tampa), over just four days, from August 12 to August 15, deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office issued 2,391 warnings for stop-arm violations. (For now, drivers who violate the stop-arm warning and flashing red lights urging them to stop will receive just a warning, but starting Sept. 12, violators will be slapped with a $225 ticket - more than red light violation fines.)
* Please also remember that using a wireless communications device in a handheld manner while driving in a designated school crossing, school zone, or active work zone area is against the law and extremely dangerous.
