A-PAL Is At Capacity. We Need Your Help.

cat_in_box.jpg

We currently have 241 cats and kittens in care, forcing us to hang our "no vacancy" sign. However, we will never turn away a sick or injured feline that needs immediate aid. This level of care is made possible with the help of our many friends, volunteers and partnering veterinarians in our local community.

Due to the high volume of animals in care right now, we are out of cages to house more cats at our facility or to loan to fosters. We are also using 12 bags of cat litter every week! If you want to help, please visit our Wish Lists on either Amazon or Chewy.com and select cages or cat litter.

Phoenix Rises

This aptly named kitten received a new lease on life with the help of our friends at Jackson Creek Veterinary Clinic. Phoenix was attacked, and the resulting infection was so severe veterinary staff thought he would lose both eyes. Thanks to rescuer Jeff Holman as well as Jen and the caring staff at Jackson Creek, he has a second chance. Jen kept Phoenix in her care for the first week while his drain tubes were in, and she made sure he gained weight. He was in such bad shape, everyone thought this little guy was a senior cat. Well, it turns out Phoenix is still rising -- he's just 18 months old and has a long life ahead!

Life-Saving Surgery for Amy

This little kitten named Amy was found at the Amador County Fairgrounds in need of urgent medical attention. Her eye had ruptured, and it required immediate surgery. Dr. Alison Pillsbury at Acorn Hills Animal Center came to the rescue, performing eye-removal surgery for this tiny feline. Amy can now lead a healthy life as someone's forever girl. We are so grateful to Acorn Hills for accepting these ill or injured animals, which so often come to them on a last minute, emergency basis.

$40 Spay/Neuter Making A Difference

Earlier this year, A-PAL Humane Society received a grant from Amador County to fund low-cost spay/neuter clinics in our community. To date, more than 125 cats have been spayed or neutered at a cost to their owners of just $40. Acorn Hills Animal Center and Jackson Creek Veterinary Clinic have been instrumental in making these clinics possible. The average female cat can have 100 kittens in her lifetime so the impact of these efforts on reducing pet overpopulation will be seen for years to come in our community.

Did You Know?

During kitten season, Jackson Creek Veterinary Clinic dedicates one day a week to performing between 15 - 30 spay/neuter surgeries for A-PAL? When intakes are particularly high, they often add a day to their schedule, giving us two spay/neuter days and performing as many as 31 surgeries in a single day! We are beyond grateful for their efforts. Preventing pet overpopulation saves lives and reduces shelter intakes, which gives many more animals a better chance of finding forever homes.

A-PAL Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization supported solely by donations; 100 percent of donations are used for the benefit of the animals in Amador County.
