Memorial gift of iPads making a difference for skilled nursing care residents
The family of former resident Marion Alborn, who passed away in June of 2023, decided to use gifts given in her memory to purchase three iPads to begin a loaner program for Madonna Towers skilled nursing care residents. Residents can check out the iPads for 48 hours to connect with family members via FaceTime, play games or use the internet.
Marion's children Amy Youngstrom and Eric Alborn shared about how their mom inspired this memorial gift:
"Our mother was a high-tech grandmother. She was an avid user of digital photos and video to document and stay connected with her grandsons and their activities, including sports and music. In addition, FaceTime on iPads and Facebook Portrait were two ways that we kept in touch with her regularly via video conferencing during her time at Madonna Towers."
The response to the iPad program from residents has been positive, according to Madonna Towers Wellness Director Collin Volkman. He described one resident's reaction when presented with an iPad to explore.
"I brought over an iPad and the gentleman lit up with interest to experience it," Volkman said.
