CNTR MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

The Military Health System Strategic Partnership with the American College of Surgeons (MHSSPACS) is a Stakeholder member of the coalition.

The partnership between the Military Health System and ACS facilitates collaboration between the two entities in an effort to advance high-quality, cost-effective care for surgical patients. With a goal to improve military research capabilities in surgery, MHSSPACS folds the military perspective into CNTR's multi-disciplinary coalition.

Present Your Research to CNTR's Patient & Caregiver Panel

CNTR's standing I-REP Panel meets once a quarter to hear from investigators needing feedback on patient-centered projects. By actively engaging with research-literate patients and caregivers who may benefit from trauma studies, researchers can ensure that the outcomes they plan to measure are meaningful, respective, trauma-informed and relevant to the injured patient.

We have a full agenda for the next session on July 17, 2024! Click below to participate in the next quarterly session on October 30, 2024.

NTRAP Research Gaps Spotlight

Karen Brasel, MD, FACS, NTRAP Post-Admission Critical Care Research Delphi Panel leader.

Top Priorities for Critical Care Research

Each month in 2024, we're showcasing the highest priority research gaps identified by panels of subject matter experts in 11 topic areas as part of the National Trauma Research Action Plan (NTRAP). Following are the top three gaps identified by the Post-Admission Critical Care Research Panel:

  • Does the use of whole blood in trauma resuscitation improve critical care outcomes compared to use of component therapy?

  • Does the routine addition of ketamine within 24 hours to the pain and sedation management of polytrauma patients reduce narcotic requirements and delirium compared to intravenous opioids and propofol?

  • In trauma patients following initial resuscitation to normal physiologic and laboratory measurements (blood pressure, lactate, base deficit) after bleeding control, does a fluid de-resuscitation protocol (active removal of fluid by dialysis or diuresis) reduce mortality, ICU days, and/or ventilator days compared to a conservative fluid strategy or liberal fluid strategy?
