MESSAGE FROM MAYOR KLING

The City of Nampa has conducted an annual community survey since 2018. Over the past six years, one of the top concerns has been traffic congestion and respondents listed transportation improvements as a funding priority.

On May 21, 2024, Nampa voters inside city limits will have an opportunity to vote on a $38 million General Obligation (GO) Transportation Bond. The following high-need projects have been identified for funding if the GO Transportation Bond is approved by voters:

  • Treasure Valley Marketplace/Midland Intersection Improvements
  • Library Square Congestion Improvements
  • 12th to 11th Ave S Crossover Connection
  • South-East Nampa Connection to SH-16 (Design)
  • Safe Routes to School (Sidewalk Improvements)

The projects have been identified through community input, technical analysis, Nampa’s Transportation Advisory Group, Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee and school district officials, among others.

The existing general obligation bond, which was approved by voters in 2004, is expiring in August of this year. If approved by voters, the new GO Transportation Bond is estimated to cost taxpayers approximately $18 per $100,000 of the taxable value, which is approximately the same cost of the expiring bond. On average, this equates to $40 to $50 per residential property per year, or approximately $3-4 per month.

We encourage voters to visit our website for more information! We will be announcing dates for community open houses, sharing videos and other opportunities to learn about the GO Transportation Bond soon - stay tuned!

NAMPA'S CITIZEN'S ACADEMY LEARNS ABOUT PUBLIC WORKS - PART 2

This week, Nampa's Citizen's Academy learned about the City of Nampa's Water Division (including irrigation), Wastewater Division, and Environmental Resources (including storm drains).

Did you know we are largest full-service Water Resources Department in Idaho? Nampa owns and manages $6 billion in infrastructure. Out of 21 water utilities in the Treasure Valley, Nampa ranks in the bottom two for water utility rates. Nampa has the second largest wastewater treatment facility in Idaho and, even with recent upgrades to the plant, Nampa’s wastewater utility rates are still moderate compared to other local utilities.

Nampa's first Citizen's Academy is almost over! Next week they will learn about the Nampa Public Library and Finance! We're so appreciative of the Nampa residents who are investing their time to learn about the City of Nampa!

CONSTRUCTION UPDATES

The City of Nampa has begun installing new irrigation lines to improve reliability before the irrigation season begins. This project will be done in two areas: the first is on Happy Valley Road near Wagon Road (area 1) and the second is on Wallcott Street and Happy Valley Road (area 2). The project is anticipated to be completed by late April.

Area 1: Crews will be completing a pressurized irrigation connection at Happy Valley Road and Wagon Road and will require a full road closure from Victory Road to Amity Avenue from 3/6-3/8 while crews are in the road. Once the connection is completed, crews will still need to work along the subdivision entrance until mid-March. Residents must temporarily access the subdivision via Whistling Heights Way from Grays Lane while work is occurring.

Area 2: Crews will also be completing a pressurized irrigation connection at Happy Valley Rd and Wallcott St starting March 6 and will require a full road closure from Greenhurst Road to Locust Lane until mid-April. Residents must temporarily access the subdivision via Salmon River Street from Happy Valley Road or Bridgewater Avenue from Greenhurst Road.

Improving road safety with COMPASS

– and we need your feedback!

Safety is a top priority at [insert organization], especially as we navigate continued growth in the Treasure Valley and subsequent strains on our transportation systems.

To identify solutions that ensure our community members can get to and from their destinations safely and effectively, we’ve partnered with the Community Planning Association of Southwest Idaho (COMPASS) to develop a first-of-its-kind Regional Safety Action Plan (RSAP). The RSAP aims to provide a roadmap of strategies that can help address the transportation challenges in our community.

We invite you to learn more about this project and provide your perspective on local transportation safety by visiting compassidaho.org/safety.
