Meet our New Executive Director:
Rhea Muchalla LeGrande
Lead to Read KC is pleased to announce the appointment of Rhea Muchalla LeGrande as our new Executive Director.

"I look forward to advancing our impactful work alongside our dedicated partners and community members. Together, we will continue to cultivate a more beautiful Kansas City, grounded in equity and enriched by literacy, ensuring every child experiences the profound joy and transformative power of reading," said LeGrande.

LeGrande will assume the leadership role on May 13, 2024.
Lead to Read KC Appreciates You
It's National Volunteer Month which gives us more reasons to thank our Reading Mentors and Outreach volunteers. We are able to engage with more students because of the caring, consistent, and positive presence you have in our community.
Thank you to Guadalupe Centers Middle School students for holding a fundraiser for Lead to Read KC. During their Literary Fiesta in March, students celebrated a week of literacy theme days, earning books and making donations to our program.
Number 15 Loves to Read, Just Like You!
Everybody had fun at the April 12 Reading Rally, but we think Patrick Mahomes had the best time of all. The Read for 15 event marked our fourth year of partnering with the 15 and Mahomes Foundation to motivate kids to read outside of school. Number 15 shared books he reads for himself and with his kids, and told the students in attendance, "Every day you should be reading to succeed in whatever your dream is." Click here to watch a two-minute video from the event.
That's a whole lot of books!
Since 2011, Lead to Read KC has distributed more than 53,000 books! Thank you to this month's Second Saturday Sorting volunteers who helped us celebrate. Our increasing number of Reading Is Everywhere(SM) locations rely on community book donations. If you’d like to help, contact Community Outreach Manager Linda Hughes linda@leadtoreadkc.org. Volunteer Spotlight: Jamie Morrow
Jamie Morrow is brand new to Lead to Read KC but she’s already figured out why being a Reading Mentor is so meaningful.

She sees the experience as an honor. “Having the privilege to meet students where they are, engaging with them, and encouraging them not only in reading, but in school has been an amazing opportunity.”
