The Chili Dog That Lawyers Dream of
by Jay Reeves

The Survivor Benefit Plan is the survivor annuity associated with military retired pay.  If the servicemember (SM) or retiree dies first, the spouse or former spouse (FS) survivor will receive 55% of the selected base amount (usually the full pension) for life. The cost is 6.5% of the base amount for active-duty retirements, and about 10% for Guard/Reserve retirees.
interview with Elizabeth Jamison, President MSJDN

From the Army base at Fort Bragg to the Marine Corps base at Camp Lejeune-North Carolina is one of the most military friendly states in the country. North Carolina continues its tradition in supporting military families by becoming the fourth state to pass a rule modifying the requirements of comity licensure for military spouse attorneys who can prove that they reside in the state due to their spouse's military orders.
Elizabeth Jamison, President of the Military Spouse JD network, has been an active member of MSJDN since 2012, including two years as Communications Director from 2013-2015. She is married to a Navy helicopter pilot; his career has taken them to California, Florida, Rhode Island, and Virginia. Libby is admitted to practice in California, Washington State, and before the Supreme Court of the United States.
We had a chance to speak with her learn and more about the MSJDN and the work they are doing to support military families.

We all like to be more productive in how we work.
