TSMC Arizona announces plans for third leading-edge fab expansion.
The third phase will produce the most advanced leading-edge semiconductors in the U.S., bringing TSMC’s total investment in Arizona to over $65 Billion, making the site the most significant foreign direct investment in Arizona's history. TSMC Arizona’s three fabs are expected to create approximately 6,000 direct high-tech, high-wage jobs, more than 20,000 accumulated unique construction jobs, and tens of thousands of indirect supplier and consumer jobs. All TSMC overseas investments are subject to regulatory approvals in Taiwan as necessary.
Chamber releases fall Home & Health Show dates early.
The Chamber of Commerce has unveiled the schedule for its upcoming fall Home & Health Shows, building on the success of the spring events, which sold out early. These flagship direct consumer events are a vital part of the Chamber's annual calendar, connecting residents in the West Valley with businesses offering home remodeling, upgrades, and health and wellness services. With eight events planned annually, this Chamber's economic development activity supports regional business retention and expansion efforts.
A new Dick's Sporting Goods concept store is finally making its way to West Valley.
Another sporting destination is coming to the Valley as Dick’s Sporting Goods Inc. recently acquired 11 acres of vacant land for $10.6 million near Glendale’s Westgate Entertainment District (southwest corner of Loop 101 and Maryland Avenue) It will reportedly expand its new concept next year called Dick’s House of Sport. The company has 12 House of Sports stores and plans to roll out ten more throughout 2024.By 2027, Dick’s Sporting Goods plans to have around 75 to 100 House of Sports locations across the country.
More cold storage and manufacturing facilities.
The Novi, Michigan-based company, entered into a lease agreement with the developer of the project, Cold Summit Development. The new facility marks Lineage's entrance into the Phoenix market. It will allow the company to expand its storage capacity and distribution across the Southwest, including in the Los Angeles metro. The company expects the facility to create about 75 jobs. Lineage will operate in 170,000 square feet in the facility with 28,000 pallet positions and expects its new facility to be operational by July 2024. Abrazo’s new Buckeye medical campus begins the first phase of construction.
The first construction phase on Abrazo Health’s new medical campus in Buckeye is taking shape, with steel framing going up for a new medical office building. Medical offices, ambulatory services, and an acute care hospital are planned for the 27-acre campus to provide healthcare closer to home for residents of one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S. Abrazo officials anticipate that the new medical campus at I-10 and Verrado Way will be a healthcare anchor for the area and a driver of economic activity.
ASU to offer the country's first master's degree program in artificial intelligence in business
Following ASU's groundbreaking announcement of the first university collaboration with OpenAI, the W. P. Carey School of Business is officially launching a new degree program — the Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence in Business (MS-AIB). Backed by the Department of Information Systems faculty, it is the first AI graduate degree program from a business school in the United States.
Amazon signs third major lease in 2024
Retail giant Amazon has moved forward with its third major industrial deal this year. According to multiple sources with knowledge of the agreement, Amazon.com Inc. has fully leased a 1.2 million-square-foot warehouse in Goodyear called Prologis 303 Business Park. The new deal brings the total amount of space that Amazon leased to 3.5 million square feet across three large buildings—all in the West Valley. Each of Amazon's new facilities could bring hundreds, if not thousands, of new jobs to this part of the Valley.
Two-building industrial projects underway in Surprise
Minnesota-based Ryan Cos. US Inc. and Los Angeles-based ESI Ventures are developing a new 145,000-square-foot industrial project in Surprise. The companies recently broke ground on the Surprise 34 project near Dysart and Waddell roads in the Surprise Pointe neighborhood. It's expected to deliver by the first quarter of 2025. Peoria is next up for significant growth near TSMC
With the $40 billion Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. next door and plans for a $2 billion Amkor semiconductor plant in Peoria, city leaders are positioning 8,300 acres of state trust land as the next major development hotspot in metro Phoenix. One of two major areas the city is eyeing is 1,621 acres along the Loop 303 just southwest of the Vistancia master-planned community, the large Amkor project that's set to bring 2,000 jobs and Vistancia's Five North commercial core, all along the Loop 303 from Pinnacle Peak Road to Lone Mountain Parkway.
