Avian Influenza in BC
On September 12, 2022, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has confirmed highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) at a commercial poultry farm in Chilliwack, BC. As a result, the BC Poultry Association is recommending all growers practice enhanced (red) biosecurity.

Allocation for Period A-180
The allocation for Period A-180 ( December 18, 2022 to February 11, 2023) was set by the Chicken Farmers of Canada Board of Directors on September 12, 2022 at 6.5 % above base as follows (in KG LIVE weight.)

Domestic: 268,079,523
Market Development: 7,670,359
Specialty (BC, AB and ON): 2,175,267
MD as compared to domestic 2.86 %
Specialty as compared to domestic: 0.81%

British Columbia
Domestic: 36,558,031
Market Development: 999,564
Total: 38,833,474
MD as compared to domestic: 2.73 %
Specialty as compared to domestic: 3.49%

6.5 % over base nationally yields 6.0 % to BC under the current CFC allocation agreement and the recovery agreement to eastern Canada for periods A-163 and A-164.

The pro-rata allotment for BC growers is set at 96.31 %.
Pricing for Period A-178
Pricing Orders for Period A-178 have been distributed and are now available on our industry website by going to "About BCCMB" -- "BCCMB Orders and Reports", -- "Pricing Orders."

Long Term Pricing Model for BC Chicken: Grower Cost Data Collection Update
Sercon Consulting has contacted random grower to participate in the cost survey. Thank you to those chosen growers for your participation. The data from this survey will be very useful for the Grower Cost Recovery Model committee going forward.

Daryl Arnold
Daryl Arnold , retired grower of Moonlight Poultry Farm passed away on September 2, 2022. Daryl was an active member of the agriculture and poultry industry, serving on organizations such as the BC Chicken Growers' Association and the Metro Vancouver Agriculture committee. A celebration of life will be held Sunday, October 2, 2022, 11:30 a.m. at Northview Golf Club, 6857 168th Street in Surrey.
