Just because the school year is out doesn't mean CAWP is without students. Three summer interns are on site, working on Teach a Girl to Lead™ and keeping the Center's research and information services humming. Welcome to Devon Himelman, Aditya Singh, and Sam Tacon!

Partners in three states have just completed their NEW Leadership summer institutes, winding up this year's programs. Congratulations to our partners in Puget Sound, Wisconsin, and Oregon, and to all the women who have stepped up to hone their leadership skills and start figuring out what they will do to change the world!

Ready to Speak Out, Ready to Run
|
Thirty-five participants attended an intensive post-Ready to Run™ workshop, Effective Presentation and Communication Skills, on June 20 at CAWP. They learned from expert trainer and Rutgers Professor Karla Jackson Brewer how to conquer speech anxiety and tested their new-found skills. It's not too early to mark your calendar for next year's Ready to Run™. Save these dates: March 21-22, 2014!

Louisiana's Woman Problem: LA ranks last in the nation in the percentage of women in its state legislature. The Huffington Post, with help from experts, explores why. Women at the Helm: As Australia's first Prime Minister Julia Gilliard stepped down, Hillary Clinton told an audience that women need to "step up" and "dare to compete" at the highest echelons of American politics. Taking their Rightful Place: Women are seeking a greater voice and presence in the GOP, launching the Republican Women's Policy Committee and announcing efforts to recruit Republican women candidates for 2014 House elections.
Did you watch Texas State Senator Wendy Davis's now-famous filibuster? She ran for office to stand (literally!) for what she believes in. Why not stand for elective office yourself? Last week, Senator Davis mobilized many and demonstrated the power women can have when their voices are heard in legislative policy debates. Whatever your party or stance, check out CAWP's Resource Map to find resources in your state that can help you get ready to run! |
