Performance Appraisals

Acting now will help you later

We’re nearing the end of the fiscal year on June 30. This means performance appraisal season is also approaching. Now is a great time to focus what’s left of fiscal year 2023 (FY23) on the performance goals set by Aspirus and your leaders. Make sure all the important work you do is documented!

Each Aspirus employee was cascaded two goals to work toward in FY23 as well as goals assigned by your leader. View your goals in Halogen and update notes on your progress. These comments are pulled into the performance appraisal and will save you time on documentation when writing your self-appraisal. Comments on your performance goals can be entered into Halogen at any point throughout the year.

Resources to support performance appraisals and working in Halogen can be found in the right-hand column of the Performance Appraisals intranet page (Life & Career > Annual Performance Appraisals). If there are goals assigned to you that are no longer applicable to the role you now hold, please discuss this with your leader to decide whether these should be removed prior to the close of the fiscal year.

Consider Picking Up Prescriptions

In-person offers benefits over mail-order

Aspirus employees who live or work near an Aspirus retail pharmacy are advised to pick up your prescriptions rather than have them mailed for faster and better service. Operational changes at the United States Postal Service (USPS) have resulted in recent mail delays that are impacting mail-order prescriptions. The cost of mailing prescriptions also continues to rise, which increases costs to our health plan.

All Aspirus retail pharmacies offer pickup services. You also get the added benefit of personal service and consultation about your medications, if needed.

If you do order prescriptions through the mail, you are advised to make requests two weeks in advance. Please also be aware that some medications may have restrictions on whether they can be ordered through the mail, such as controlled substances and some pain medication, insomnia drugs or ADHD treatments. If you receive prescriptions through multiple pharmacies or order methods, be sure to let your pharmacies know about all the medications you are taking and update them regularly about any changes so your pharmacist can alert you to any potentially dangerous drug interactions.

Celebrating Our EMS Partners

It’s National EMS Week (May 21-27), the perfect opportunity to thank and celebrate all the exceptional emergency medical services personnel who do so much good for our area communities.

THANK YOU for your countless hours of dedication and service. We’re incredibly fortunate to have such well-trained and highly skilled professionals always there to answer the call when needed.

Welcome

Weider to Join Aspirus as CIO on June 12

Will Weider will be joining Aspirus Health as Senior Vice President – Chief Information Officer (CIO) on June 12. Will will oversee all system-wide IT areas and comes to Aspirus with more than 28 years of IT leadership experience.

He most recently served as the Senior Vice President and CIO at PeaceHealth, a 10-hospital system that spans three states and includes 16,000+ employees. Will’s vast experience includes the optimization and standardization of an Epic Electronic Medical Record and the deployment of Infor’s Cloudsuite Enterprise Resource Planning to manage human resources, finance and supply chain.

Current CIO Todd Richardson will continue in his role to help orient Will to our system before retiring at the end of the fiscal year. Our best wishes to Todd after more than a decade of dedicated service and leadership at Aspirus.

Epic

Compass Rose - Phase 2

Going live today (May 23)

Phase 2 of Epic Compass Rose goes live today (May 23).

Phase 2 includes:

  • Complex Care Management (CCM)
  • Chronic Disease Management (CDM) – Health Plan
  • Chronic Disease Management (CDM) – Care Managers

Why?

Currently, Aspirus Ambulatory Care Coordination leverages multiple tools within and outside of Epic to deliver care to our patients, creating many inefficiencies. To streamline care delivery and improve efficiencies, we have worked with Epic to implement a new module called Compass Rose. With Epic Compass Rose, Aspirus can leverage a systemized, integrated work tool within Epic to support transparent delivery and improve communication to the rest of the Care Team.

Epic Compass Rose supports Aspirus’ care coordination needs across the enterprise, including population health, social care, health plan case management, and community programs. With Compass Rose, our care coordinators can efficiently manage outreach, engage patients and their support networks, collaborate on care plans, and connect with community partners to improve individuals’ well-being and the health of our populations.

Musician Gets a Helping Hand

When Tom Davis of Wisconsin Rapids cut a tendon in his index finger while ice fishing, he worried that his days of playing accordion may be over.

Thanks to hand therapy, he’s on track to achieve his goal: full recovery in time for four polka gigs in early June.

Factors that Affect Blood Pressure

High blood pressure is a serious medical condition. It's one of the leading risk factors for heart disease and early death. It's also really common – nearly 1 in 2 adults in the U.S. has it.

“High blood pressure can affect your health in many ways, causing serious damage to your heart, brain, eyes, kidneys, abdomen and legs,” says Melissa Wendell, Nurse Practitioner with Aspirus Cardiology – Wausau. “Fortunately, a number of the factors that increase your risk for high blood pressure are things you can change, and in turn, lower your risk for other serious health problems.”
