Dear Houston LGBT,

Last week, we celebrated the Chamber’s 7th Anniversary, and it was an amazing evening! Thank you to everyone who joined us for the celebration. As I shared in my remarks, we would not be where we are at in terms of the Chamber’s growth and impact if it wasn’t for our Members, Corporate Partners and other supporters. Thank you for supporting the Chamber! We appreciate you.

Speaking of impact, we are so excited the Grubhub Community Impact Grant Program is back for 2023 to support the restaurant community. Last year, we gave away $70,000 to restaurants in partnership with Grubhub and the NGLCC. We want to give away even more this year! The first step…apply! Read more below about the grant program.

It was another successful Day at the Capitol as the Texas LGBTQ Chambers of Commerce visited Austin on Valentine’s Day. Unfortunately, on a day where love is celebrated, the lack of recognition with a formal resolution for the Texas LGBTQ Chambers of Commerce and our members across the state was met with opposition. Read more about the resolution controversy below.

Pride In Business Awards nominations are now open! Nominate your member business for one of the Pride In Business Awards. Learn more about the awards and how you can submit a nomination.

New Chamber Office! We are so excited to announce that the Chamber has a new office thanks to our wonderful President’s Circle Member, Sesh Coworking. We have collaborated with Sesh over the years with even more coming in the months ahead. Join us this Friday to check out the new office, see the Sesh space (members get one day a month free!). Plus, enjoy food at the First Friday Meet & Eat which is combined this month. Read more in this issue about the events and be sure and register for the lunch.

Check out details on the new Member LinkedIn Group as well! We know many of our members utilize the platform and we want to give as many opportunities to connect and share information about member businesses as possible. Details below!

As always, we have some fantastic events coming up. Whether you are a small business, LGBTQ+ professional or supporter…join us! We have a great time at Chamber events and we love connecting community! There is much more to share in this issue so catch up on the latest updates.

As we finish up this anniversary month, I will repeat what I shared during the Chamber’s 5 Year Anniversary…we are just getting started! If you are not part of the Chamber, it’s truly a great time to get engaged.

With Pride,

Tammi Wallace (she/her/hers)

Co-Founder and President & CEO

GrubHub Application Open Now Through March 8!

Grubhub and the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) announced the return of their partnership with the 2023 Community Impact Grant Program supporting LGBTQ+ and Allied-Owned restaurants. Last year, this grant program gave out $70,000 to greater Houston area LGBTQ+ and Allied owned businesses. This year the program is back and better than ever! Grants are expected to range from $10,000 to $25,000 and funds can be used for things like updating security and security protocols, updating/purchasing new equipment, community involvement, marketing and PR services, updating digital/e-commerce presence, purchasing product, staff training programs, employee pay and/or staff incentivized wages, COVID-19 recovery, and maintenance/updating of current infrastructure, etc.

Day at the Capitol Wrap Up

On Valentine’s Day, Texas LGBTQ Chambers of Commerce, a coalition of the Austin, Greater Houston, North Texas, and San Antonio LGBT Chambers of Commerce gathered in Austin to meet with our elected officials.

While the overall day was successful, unfortunately, the Texas LGBTQ Chambers of Commerce was not recognized with House and Senate resolutions as is customary.  And the reason? Blatant discrimination. Read the Chambers’ message about the resolutions here and the Texas LGBTQ Chambers of Commerce statement here.

We have so much more work to do in Texas, and the Chamber will continue advocating for our members and the LGBTQ+ community.

Check out some of the photos from the Day at the Capitol.

Day at the Capitol

While our Day at the Capitol is over, you can still have a voice this legislative session. With over 75+ anti-LGBTQ+ bills filed, your voice is needed now more than ever.  Contact your legislators using the Chamber's Digital Advocacy Toolkit throughout the session, which runs through May 29.

Congratulations Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher!

Congratulations to Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher on her new role as the Vice Chair of the Congressional Equality Caucus! We appreciate her service and for taking on this important leadership role and for all she has done for the LGBTQ+ community over the years.

She is a champion for the LGBTQ+ community, including LGBTQ+ owned businesses, as well as the Chamber. We cannot think of a better choice considering her representation of Montrose, her longtime support of the LGBTQ+ community and her commitment to equality.

We look forward to continuing our work with Congresswoman Fletcher in this new role.
