What a week!

Last week, we had our St Lucia Rum Tasting. It was a sell out and a fabulous success. With five sensational artisan rums and matched Caribbean inspired tapas, it was a great night, plus a first for us. We have now fixed a second date of 1st February, check the details out below.

This week was a very special week personally for Elaine and I. We are delighted to announce becoming grandparents to the beautiful Brody James Kinsella. Only two years ago, we daren't dream of moments like this - how quickly do things change! Just back from our first visit this weekend, we are still on cloud nine and looking forward to seeing him again very soon for a load of cuddles. Also, a huge thank you to everyone who has donated and sponsored me for next week's charity bike ride (in aid of Myeloma UK) when I cycle from London to Paris. Last week was our monthly food, drink and music quiz, with the live music round themed around rock classics and air guitar. It was a brilliant fun, raucous night. Our quizzes have been going for the last 13 years and our most popular events. Always on the last Friday of the month, with food and drink to taste and a live music round, played on Flamenco guitar, they are pure, unadulterated fun and held in Lunyalita. Fundraising night for the Bloom Appeal - an opulent night of food and drink, MC'd by the legendary Roger Phillips - 27th September

A very special and personal night to raise funds for the Bloom Appeal - a local blood cancer charity. This week is blood cancer awareness week. Elaine is on the board of the Bloom Appeal, having been diagnosed with Myeloma, a blood cancer. This night we will provide a glorious range of sensational tapas and wines, with all proceeds raised going to the Bloom Appeal. Hosted by Roger Phillips, of Radio Merseyside fame. we promise you a great night of food and drink and all in a brilliant cause.


You will have 5 courses of our very best gourmet tapas, all paired with Spain's very best wines. You will also get to hear about the Bloom Appeal and Roger will interview Peter & Elaine about their experiences of setting up and running Lunya, getting through the pandemic, Elaine living with her blood cancer diagnosis and plans for the future. It will be a great night for a superb cause.

Pintxos Tasting, 14th September

Our next tasting is coming up fast in Lunyalita. Ready to transport you to the back streets of San Sebastian, we will have exquisite pintxos, paired with a range of Spanish beers (or wines if you would prefer). Over 12 gloriously constructed pintxos of meat, fish and vegetable, you will have a real feast to the soundtrack of live Spanish guitar music. We have matching Spanish beers or (for a £10 supplement) matching Spanish wines.

Fine & Rare Wines Tasting, 5th October

This is a very special wine tasting. Our most special wines, representing not just the best wine from Spain, but some of the best wines in the world. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to try a selection of really exceptional wines, including sensational 40 year old Rioja from the Gloria bodega, Pintia from Vega Sicilia, the exquisite Priorat wine, Clos Fonta, plus we have the stupendous Marques de Murrieta Castillo Ygay 2010 Rioja and many more – over 10 wines on show. 80's Hits Themed Food, drink & Music Quiz in September

Our quizzes are one of the most popular events we do. Providing the best fun you can have in Liverpool on a Friday night. On Friday 29th September, at Lunyalita, we have our next quiz, where the music round is 80s hits themed. Ten 80s classics played flamenco style by our resident guitarist. Plus, food and drink from across Spain to answer questions on. If you love anything from Depeche Mode to the Stranglers to A-ha, then this is the night for you!

Superb Spanish Cheese

We have long prided ourselves on having the very best cheese from Spain. Every year, we extend our range, constantly seeking out new cheeses that we discover on our travels. We have an absolutely exquisite range which you can check out here - available in the deli and online for delivery across the UK.


Here are some of our newer cheeses (but don't forget those we have had for years) - they are all exceptional!


Payayo Oloroso - an exceptional, aged goat's milk cheese, steeped in Oloroso sherry. strong and mature with the caramel and nut notes of Oloroso coming through


Olavidia

Olavidia is a stunning soft creamy goats cheese that has a wonderful texture with a slightly creamy and buttery flavour with floral notes reflective of the goats’ diet. It presents a whitish colour and when cut shows a vein of ash that resembles the classic Morbier. In 2018 they won the best Spanish Cheese, an accolade which was reinforced when they won the world cheese awards, highlighting the exceptional nature of this unique artisanal product.


Musgo Lavado

Musgo Lavado is a raw goats’ milk cheese from Avila that is washed daily with distilled water and salt. It has an intense fragrance and a slightly elastic semi-soft texture. It has a fruity, elegant and persistent flavour and provides hints of soft yoghurt and sweet cereal notes in mouth. Medium soft in texture, a glorious mild whole goat’s cheese


Gamoneu

Gamonedo is a very unique slightly blue cheese, which is huge within cheese connoiseurs, produced from an unpasteurized blend of cows, sheep’s and goat’s milk. It has a slightly acidic and spicy taste at first with a nutty aftertaste. The elaboration of this Gamonéu del Valle begins with the mixture of the 3 milks, cow (55%), goat and sheep with rennet and lactic ferments. The mixture rests until it forms a solid mass (curd) that is cut and left to drain. It is then introduced into the molds that give it its characteristic cylindrical shape. The cheeses are salted and allowed to dry slightly before being smoked. Its elaboration ends with the smoking of oak and chestnut wood, which gives it very identifiable nuances on the nose and in the mouth. Finally, the Gamoneu cheese matures for at least two months in a natural cave that gives it the blue-green tones that intertwine its edges. The most enigmatic cheese in the world? We think so, as do cheese connoisseurs the world over


Txakoli from the Basque Country

We have the very best Txakoli from the Basque Country. You may have tried it if you visit the restaurant. If you haven't, you should. It's simply outstanding. A very light blush in colour, and packed full of strawberries and cream, yet light and dry, with that famed natural tingly fizz that Txakoli wine is famous for. Rezabal produce the very best Txakoli. we buy it buy the pallet and can offer sensational pricing on it, as a consequence. This is pure elegance and will delight you and any friends you share it with.

Tio Pepe En Rama 2023 is here

We now have this year's release of Tio Pepe En Rama in our deli, online store and in the bar. Unfiltered Fino Sherry, straight from the barrel and carefully selected by Antonio Flores, the chief wine-maker at the bodega. 2023 is an exceptional year - full of fresh green apple notes, yeasty flourishes and lemon zest on the finish, it is really fabulous. Charity Fundraising

I am cycling from London to Paris in September to raise money for Myeloma UK who are dedicated to finding a cure for Myeloma, the blood cancer which Elaine has. 


Now I take my own health seriously (for the first time at 59 – better late than never), I am fit enough and light enough (having got Diabetes into remission and lost 8+ stone now!) to take this challenge on. 


We see this as a real race. Cures for cancer rely on funding. Can we help raise money to find a cure for Myeloma before it gets Elaine! Not a great way to think about it, but so true

Outside Catering

Did you know that we do outside catering throughout Merseyside? From boardroom catering for work meetings to family gatherings, parties and funerals - and much more. We have a unique range of buffet and canape food (not a frozen spring roll out of a packet in sight! everything is made by us and reflects many of the dishes in our restaurant. We can do giant paellas and whole ham carving, too. In recent weeks, we have done tow funeral wakes, a birthday party, a giant paella and a business lunch.
