Though it isn't much to look at yet, our BossPrinterMonkey has a temporary(?) blog for The Olympia Review up and running.

"The purpose of the Olympia Review is to nurture a vibrant publishing culture in Olympia and the Pacific Northwest. Much of current literature is centered upon what has happened, while it should be focused on what is going to happen. The future should always be present."

We've also been getting a tad better at maintaining our blog: Last Word Blog. We are on Facebook, Twitter & Myspace and, though we abhor it, we are attempting to maintain a regular presence across these social networking systems. Except for Myspace, which sucks.
Some of you may be interested in our Parent-Store: Earthlight Books, open in Walla Walla, Washington since 1973, which assists us in stocking our new books down at the shop in Olympia.
Others may find our radical "sistro" associate Last Earth Distro more to their liking. Last Earth specializes in underground radical books on everything from extreme survival skills to drug labs to gardening to guerrilla-everything.
Any of the books on their systems we can easily get in down here at Last Word if you so wish, and they should be up on our website in the near future, after we whip the techno-monkey.
Greetings Bibliophiles,
It was Samuel Johnson who once quipped, "It is a dead dog that has no bark..." Or maybe he didn't. What does it matter in this day and age?
We're approaching the diēs caniculārēs, the dry raging days of summer. We're hunkering down to sweat out the long season and survive our rapidly declining civilities.
"You wamt ketchup with that, piss off" our waitress says. The guy in line at the bank wants two hundred dollars in dimes for no apparent reason other than to vex us. We suddenly become enraged, avowing to murder the asshole driving three miles below the speed limit blaring Limp Bizkit out of a stereo more attuned to the mating call of a dodo, which it might be.
It is on us, these Dog Days of Summer. All we can do is shoulder through the heat, read a book in the shade of a tree or take up residence in the basement until nightfall. The heat suits us just as the rain and the cold suit us. Either we adapt or don't. Someone famous once said that to someone else equally famous while surrounded by a small group of lesser knowns and nobodys, and it still rings true.
This summer we're redesigning the format of the store to make room for more books and a more open space for readings and events. The ever present danger of the Law of Accumulation in Relation to Books has filled our shelves to the breaking point and they're piling up in the aisles.
The new arrangement should give us a brief respite from the crowding sense of weight pushing in on us. We'll be right back where we started in a year, but that is another summer and another revolution of the earth away.
As we limp through the summer make sure to stop by and hang out during the afternoons or evenings. We'll grab a drink, maybe two; discuss the weather and talk about what we're reading lately. And in no time, everyone will be complaining about the rain and how damn cold it is again; we'll have a drink or two to chase away the chills, discuss the weather and talk about what we're reading lately.
Anyway, hope to see you soon! If you can't get here by hook and crook, pay our website a visit and wherever you are, support your local independent bookstores!
Ridiculously, literarily yours,
Last Word Books

8:30pm
Drunken Poetry
When: Mon, July 18, 8:30pm
Where: Last Word Books
Description: The Way Things Work- Readings operate on a first-come first-serve sign-up basis. Our time is limited so we're looking for something in the ballpark of three poems of moderate length or one long poem and one short from each reader. You must however submit a piece to be read by the Designated Drunk, who will be chosen at the end of each reading or shortly after and will be informed well before the next reading. We encourage the buying of drinks for the Designated Drunk. Make it good because submissions will be considered for publication on the blogs and anthologized in a chapbook published quarterly by Last Word Press.
Since this event will, at least for the time-being, take place in our bookstore, and since we will be JUICING YA'LL UP WITH FREE WINE, (*ahem* sans banquet-license)... this has to be one of those official 'private party' sorts of deals... meaning we will at some point attempt to make a show of locking the door. Statutes and Limitations: * No nature poetry. It's been done and there are a thousand other outlets for it in Olympia * No Slam. You're not Saul Williams. That's okay. * Drunken Poetry is not a public therapy session; don't try to turn it in to one. * Unless it's extremely well written we don't care about that time you tried to kill yourself when you were sixteen. Try again. * Drink, write, edit, submit, read, drink, repeat.
And, conveniently enough, the poetry reading will stagger off stage just in time for everyone to stumble over to Jazz Night at the Royal to tie a few more on, moron!
