Support Local Restaurants with #TakeoutThursdays!

Help support our local restaurants and spread the local love by ordering takeout for your chance to win a $100 Lakeview East Gift Card!

Takeout Thursdays is a local effort to encourage residents to support our amazing restaurants by ordering takeout and delivery. Since our restaurants are currently closed for indoor service, it's important to help support them however we can! Ordering in at least once a week is a great way to do so, and what better day than Thursdays (aka Friday Jr.)?!

Illinois Tier 2 Mitigations & Updates
The City of Chicago (Region 11) has moved into Tier 2 of the Illinois Mitigation Measures. Please read the City of Chicago  We continue to reach out to the Governor's office to allow our businesses to open up with larger capacities. Many regions are already in Tier 1 and we hope to see movement to this next Tier if all metrics are met.

The full reopening regulations in Chicago are available on the City's website at chicago.gov/reopening. BACP will hold a webinar on the new Mitigation Measures set by the State this Thursday, January 21st, at 2:00 pm. To register and learn more visit chicago.gov/businesseducation.
PPP Updates - Applications Now Open
The second round for PPP loans is now open for applications. You can still apply even if you already received the first PPP loan.  Some banking portals have scheduled days for first and second draws, however you need to check with your local banking representative to understand their application process. All loans are processed by the SBA (Small Business Administration) through your local financial institution.

Key recent updates and documents from the SBA include:

Updated PPP Loan Applications and Process Details

Updated applications have been released for First Draw and Second Draw PPP loans. PPP applications must go through participating PPP lenders, who then route them to the SBA for approval. Per this guidance, the SBA continues to call upon our lending partners to assist eligible borrowers in underserved and disadvantaged communities and address potential barriers to access to capital.

What's a First Draw PPP Loan and a Second Draw PPP Loan?

In general, a First Draw PPP loan is for eligible borrowers who did not receive a PPP loan before the program closed in August 2020. A Second Draw PPP loan is for certain eligible borrowers that previously received a PPP loan, generally have 300 employees or less, and have suffered a 25% reduction in gross receipts.
REMINDER: Extension of Business Relief
As a reminder, last month the Chicago City Council passed a law to extend critical regulatory relief into 2021. The following measures are now in place:
  • Extension of License Expiration Dates: All licenses that expire between March 15, 2020 and June 15, 2021 will be considered active until July 15, 2021 and those businesses can operate during that time without renewing their license or paying a fee.
  • Extension of Sidewalk Café Permit Expiration Date and Extension of Reforms: All current Sidewalk Café Permits will be considered active through May 31, 2021 and businesses with a Sidewalk Café Permit can operate their current Sidewalk Cafes until that date without renewing. Additionally, all Sidewalk Café Permits issued for the 2021 season will benefit from the temporary reforms implemented in 2020: permit fee reduction of 75%, the ability to extend in front of neighboring property and an expedited permit issuance process.
  • Extension of Expanded Outdoor Dining Program: The Expanded Outdoor Dining Program, through which bars and restaurants can operate outside on private property or closed streets, has been extended to last through the end of 2021.
Restaurant Relief Fund for Workers
If you operate a coffee shop, bar or restaurant, please let your workers know of the The Chicago Restaurant Worker Relief Fund.  This fund was created to help Chicago restaurant, bar and coffee shop workers who are experiencing hardship from the COVID-19 crisis. This fund will provide emergency relief grants based on need to these workers who have lost wages or employment due to the shutdown for the pandemic.

Grants will be awarded to applicants who meet eligibility requirements, including demonstrated need, as assessed by Southern Smoke Foundation, a nonprofit organization that also administers a national food and beverage Emergency Relief fund.
