LAKEVIEW EAST CHAMBER REQUESTS GRANTS FOR SMALL BUSINESSES DURING RPM PROJECT

How will our businesses located in the RPM construction zone survive without any financial support for the next five years?

The Chamber is currently researching other cities and programs that help businesses during construction phases.  The Los Angeles Metro offers local businesses compensation for lost revenue during construction of their Purple Line Extension into Westwood, CA. A BUSINESS INTERRUPTION FUND offered $10 million to local businesses affected by the construction of their transit system.

The CTA and the City of Chicago needs to help our local businesses.  The Chamber has been meeting with the CTA and will continue to request a plan that give the businesses more than the basic construction mitigation plan of signage, parking, dust elimination, fencing and communication channels.  The businesses need financial assistance or they may be closing their doors before they can benefit from the RPM project.  The Chamber officials will continue to push for a line item in the over one billion dollar budget that has been allocated for the modernization of our transit system.  Sign up for the alerts and more about the  RPM project here .

Tipped Wages/Tipped Credit

The hospitality industry is about to change when a 140% increase is added to employer's personnel costs. Many servers already make beyond minimum wage and the City ordinance needs to enforce the fair wage for business owners who do not make up the difference. This will be a job killer for the City when business owners are forced to layoff staff to make payroll. Servers may need to prepare themselves to bus your own tables and share the tips with others. Will this force the City to add a service tax to the consumer? Listen to business owner  Sam Sanchez  in the segment here explaining the challenges ahead for the restaurant industry.  # risingcostofbiz
