Question of the Month
t12
Q:  I have heard that T-12 ballasts are currently unavailable and the government is encouraging us to replace these with more
efficient options. Are there are programs that will help me with the
costs associated with this?  - Jim, facility manager, Savage, MN.

A:  Hi Jim, as of July of last year, the Department of Energy prohibits the manufacturing of T-12 magnetic ballasts solely
for replacement purposes.

Now may be a good time to evaluate a lighting retrofit.  According to the Energy Cost Savings Council,
energy-efficient lighting projects generate an average 45% return on
investment, paying for themselves in just 2.2 years.

There is also Federal assistance available per the Energy Policy Act of 2005.  We can help you to determine the best rebates and benefits with all available programs, give us a call to learn more!

LEC becomes a dealer of Kohler Generators

kohler

LEC can now offer commercial contractors, private home owners and end users preferential pricing on Kohler Power Generation Systems.  These LP/natural gas generators, ranging in size from 8.5 KW to 125 KW, power the bulk of our installations, ranging from backing up your home's power during a storm, or your facility during power outages.  Other than Kohler, LEC also installs Cummins generators so large that they can run an entire hospital during an outage.

LEC is currently in the process of installing a Kohler generator for the Hopkins school district, to back up their data center at Eisenhower Elementary.

Meet Chris Bergmann, LEC's Electrical Engineer

Chris Headshot

Year Joined LEC:  March of 2008

Previous Experience:  Eight years experience at one of the largest and well respected consulting engineering firms in the Upper Midwest in downtown Minneapolis.

Certifications:  Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Minnesota, LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP)

What does having an engineer at LEC add to the value that our clients receive on their projects?

Our Design Build Projects offer the value added services of PE signed CAD Drawings for submittal to AHJ and for Owner Record Drawing Set (As Builts). With myself as the in house engineer we have the ability to submit required documents to The Depatment of Health without the added cost of subcontracting another firm for PE signoff of documents.  Having an engineer involved in all phases and aspects of a project allows for better communication and efficiency in running the project, which more importantly contributes to the overall quality of the results for the owner.

What are your favorite projects to work on?  Design-build projects, which is what LEC thrives at.

Does LEC offering consulting engineering services?  Yes, contact me for more information!

Payback periods on LED lights are longer than most expect

LED

LEC consistently looks out for our customer's best interests in terms of recommending products and technologies that will help to lower your overall operating costs.  But sometimes, our customers request specific products, or in this case, LED lighting.

There is no question in our minds that LED products will undoubtedly become one of the most popular lighting options in the future, for commercial and industrial applications.  However, the question we help our customers with most often with is:  "Are LEDs my best option now?"

Recently, we were asked to install LED parking lot lights in a couple of their campuses.  Before we did this, we presented a cost/benefit analysis to our long-standing customer.   What we found will come as a surprise to many.  The payback to switch to LEDs equaled 14.8 years, click here to see our payback analysis.

We would be happy to help you decide which technology best suits your needs, feel free to email us or call us at 952-442-2740 if we can assist you in any way.

Thank you for reading our newsletter, we hope you found it useful.  We are always looking for additional people to work with, and would appreciate the opportunity to bid your next project.  Thanks for your consideration, have a great month!

Sincerely,
