Dear WPS Community,
It’s hard to believe that we’re rapidly approaching the end of the first semester of the school year, but with Thanksgiving one week from today and only three full weeks of school left before Winter Break, we’re just around the corner from 2024.
Earlier this week, I returned from my travels to China where I was working with our Global Recruitment Team to grow our international boarding program and welcome even more promising students to call our WPS community their home. While away, I couldn’t help but reflect on all of the countless hours of studying, practicing, rehearsing, and preparing that our Lakers have put in over the past 14 weeks to succeed in all the ways that they have so far this year.
Last week, we celebrated National Signing Day with four of our student athletes signing letters of intent to carry on the commitment to their sport as a part of their collegiate careers. A few days before that, our incredible high school theatre’s cast and crew of ‘The Servant of Two Masters’ won Outstanding One Act at the Florida Theatre Conference—a competition that is open to all schools in Florida and allows them to proceed to the next level of competition at the Southeastern Theatre Regional Conference.
We’re also at the time of year that our Class of 2024 is receiving college acceptances on a daily basis with 71 acceptances as of this week and we can feel the excitement that the second semester of senior year brings as graduation approaches.
As we embark upon Thanksgiving break, I encourage each of you to genuinely enjoy the week ahead as we give thanks for all that we have in our lives. Reflect on the great work you’ve done over the past few months and focus on spending time with your loved ones as you prepare for the last few weeks of school before winter break. Please note there should be no homework over the break or assessments on the first two days back to school, so that you can enjoy a true break.
I appreciate each of our Lakers and their support systems for all they do to make our community everything that it is by continuing to Live Like a Laker each day. Windermere Prep is only as strong as the sum of its parts, and with each of you as an integral part of this community, I know we will continue to thrive and flourish during the second semester of the school year.
Give Thanks Like a Laker and we’ll see you soon for the final weeks of the year!
Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving Break,
Dr. Mitchell Salerno
