Lake Shamineau Lake Improvement District
This is the Second Electronic Newsletter for Property Owners of Lake Shamineau. In an effort to improve communications, we will be using email to provide periodic updates on LID activities. Changes have also been made to our website to make it easier to find information. And note our new logo (above) that has been developed for us at no cost and will be used in future communications.
Selection of Engineering Firm
On March 11th, the Board of Directors interviewed two engineering firms that submitted proposals to assist in determining a solution to the high-water problem. The firms interviewed were Houston Engineering and Widseth Smith Nolting. A final selection decision will be made at an online Board meeting on March 22nd (see article below). The Board will be forming a project team made up of County, Soil and Water, DNR, property owners and Board members for communication and feedback as we move through the High-Water project.
AIS Grant Funding
We received notice from Morrison County of funding for the 2019 Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Partnership Grant for the Quad Lakes which includes Lake Shamineau. The Quad lakes will be receiving $15,678 for AIS surveys, $15,250 for AIS Management and $14,620 for a new Ambassador Program to monitor for AIS at the lake landings. Thanks to Morrison County for their support.
Board of Director Meetings
Next Board Meeting

The LSLID Board will be conducting an online Board meeting on March 22 at 8:30 AM. The primary purpose of the meeting will be to discuss and select an Engineering Firm. See the LSLID website for more information and the agenda.
Online Meetings

The LSLID board is using an online meeting tool for Board Meetings when meeting in-person is not possible. We have received positive feedback on the online format. Meeting schedules and instructions to attend the meetings are posted on the LID website.
Update with County Board

The LSLID Board of Directors provided an update to the Morrison County Board of Commissioners at the County Board meeting on March 12th. A letter to the Board of Commissioners providing a written summary of LID activities has been posted to the LID website.
NEW Ambassador Program
The AIS grant received from Morrison County will allow three local lakes to monitor lake access points for Invasive Species. The Ambassador program will utilize paid interns to monitor 5 public access points (2 on Lake Alexander, 2 on Lake Shamineau and 1 on Crookneck Lake).  
This Spring, we will be looking to hire Lake Shamineau Public Access Ambassadors. Applicants must be: 18 years old by May 1, 2019; be responsible, self-starting, and courteous; and be willing to attend special training provided by the DNR. Applicants must also be able to be outdoors at public access points. More information will be posted on the LID website as the program is developed.
A Message from the LID Board
With the record snowfall and potential for rapid melting, the risk of flooding may be higher this year. The MN Department of Commerce has information for homeowners. Visit their website for more information on obtaining flood insurance.
