Strategic Plan

While Lake Geneva Schools has much to be proud of, we know there are areas to improve and expand upon. That's why during the 2022-2023 school year, stakeholders, including students, parents, staff, the Boards of Education, and community members, worked together to develop a comprehensive Five-Year Strategic Plan for the District. It is with tremendous honor and pride that we share Lake Geneva School's Strategic Plan. Our five-year plan sets a course for us to join together to ensure every student's success.

Lake Geneva Schools' mission is to "Engage. Educate. Empower." while creating and connecting opportunities for excellence.

Student Growth and Achievement, Community Engagement, Human Resources, and Facilities, Finance and Operations are Lake Geneva Schools' Pillars and represent the core work of our organization. The mission, vision, commitments, and five-year strategic objectives align with the pillars and set the course for the next five years of continuous improvement.

The plan's development truly embodies the support and commitment of the entire Lake Geneva-Genoa City community. This plan will serve as a foundation for Lake Geneva Schools' effort to improve outcomes for every student in the coming years. It provides guidance for the development of annual strategic objectives that align with the four district pillars and five-year strategic objectives. This annual process provides a structure for the continuous improvement work to be completed over the long term to meet the District's mission, vision, and commitments.

We encourage you to review the Strategic Plan, ask questions, and seek opportunities to contribute. For more information on the Strategic Plan, click here.

Your Voice Matters - Community-Wide Survey

We are reaching out to all district residents, including parents and staff, through a community-wide survey to gather input regarding district operations and educational facility needs. The community-wide survey will be collecting responses from early November through November 22.

We have partnered with School Perceptions, an independent educational research firm, to conduct the survey and ensure all responses are kept confidential.

The survey will begin arriving through mail to households in the community around the week of November 6. Please watch for the community-wide survey in your mailbox!

Additionally, all parents/guardians and staff will receive the survey by email. Please be on the lookout for an email from School Perceptions.

We encourage every member of our community to participate in the survey and join us in shaping our schools' future.

Elementary Number Corner Implementation

This fall, we have added a new component to our math instruction in our elementary buildings. Each day, students participate in math warm-up activities using our Number Corner curriculum. During this 20-minute instructional session, students are engaged in math activities that integrate various mathematical concepts such as number sense, operations, geometry, measurement, and data analysis. This comprehensive approach helps students to see the interconnectedness of different mathematical ideas. Through a variety of activities including word problems, games, puzzles, and hands-on tasks, Number Corner caters to a variety of different learning styles and keeps students engaged and motivated. It is also a spiraling curriculum that revisits mathematical topics throughout the school year. This approach reinforces and deepens students’ understanding over time.

Badger Hosts Agriscience Day

Over 300 third graders from Central-Denison, Star Center, Randall, Traver, Brookwood, and Woods Schools spent time learning about agriculture science at Badger High School on Friday, October 6th, for their annual Agriscience Day. The hands-on experience exposes the children to the career pathways in the world of agriculture and excites them for when they will be students at the high school.

Badger Agriculture Teachers and FFA Advisors Candice Franks, Anna Luna, and Jeffrey Neuser, and FFA members set up and ran six labs in which each elementary student participates. Those labs are fun (and tasty) and help the elementary children understand agriculture, science, and their importance to Wisconsin and the world.

Badger Ag/FFA holds this annual event as a part of FFA Food for America agriculture literacy programming.

Introducing STEAM Education Opportunities for our K-5th Grade Students

This fall, we have added exciting new additions to our science curriculum for our kindergarten - 5th grade students. On a weekly basis, students have dedicated class time for STEAM education activities. You might be asking: What is STEAM? STEAM education is an approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics as an access point for guiding students' inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. STEAM-focused learning activities provide students with opportunities for teamwork, creativity, originality, innovation, problem-solving, collaboration, and exploration. It allows our students to work with and explore technology opportunities such as coding, 3D printing, and robotics. One of the primary goals of STEAM education is to provide our students with the skills needed to be prepared for our future world, potentially for jobs that do not even exist at this point. In our elementary buildings, our Library Media Specialists are working with our students to provide these lessons.

In a recent STEAM activity, Eastview Elementary School Students were assigned to engineering teams and presented with the problem of transporting ice from the top of a high mountain to the bottom via zipline. This ice was discovered to have healing properties, and students are developing a prototype that will demonstrate how they will safely move the ice down the mountain. The zipline must be 120 cm long, and the base of each anchor point must fit into a footprint of 20 cm x 15 cm. Teams met to discuss design ideas and braking techniques and are learning how to be a positive contributor to their team.

MJ Lucero Named Commended Student - National Merit Scholarship Program

Badger High School Senior Marie (MJ) Lucero has been named a "Commended Student" in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program.

MJ is among some 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation being recognized for their exceptional academic promise.

"Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success," said an NMSC spokesperson. "These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success."

Mrs. Matthiesen's Class Visitor - Dr. Wilson

Superintendent Dr. Peter Wilson visited Mrs. Matthiesen's 4-year-old kindergarten class at Central-Denison Elementary School for storytime. Dr. Wilson read The Fall Festival by Mercer Mayer.

Students enjoyed the book and heard that Fall is an exciting season in Critterville! Every year, Little Critter and his family take a trip to one of the most beloved events in Critterville—the Fall Festival. From picking apples and taking hayrides to choosing the perfect pumpkin, no wonder everyone loves this time of year.

Phonics in Literacy

As a part of our literacy curriculum in our elementary schools, students are engaged in phonics instruction daily. Through systematic phonics instruction, students are building strong foundational skills in understanding the relationship between letters and sounds. These skills help students decode words accurately and efficiently. It also helps students to improve their reading fluency, enhance spelling skills, and expand their vocabulary. Systematic phonics instruction also empowers students to read independently. When students can decode words effectively, they gain confidence in their own reading abilities and are more likely to engage with books and texts on their own. Numerous studies and research findings have shown the effectiveness of systematic phonics instruction in building successful readers.
