How Do Global Grants Make Sustainable Change in the World?
One remarkable aspect of The Rotary Foundation is that opportunities for significant projects exist wherever there’s a need — in large countries and small ones, in metropolitan areas and rural ones.
Global grant projects are built on international partnerships, and those collaborations can take many forms. A district in Canada may be the international sponsor, with a U.S. district as the host sponsor. A club in France could sponsor a global grant project in Germany. The need, not the location, determines the project.
Here’s another example: Rotary clubs in Honduras and the U.S. worked together on a global grant project to provide eye care to people in Honduras. Members from both clubs provided vision services through local clinics. They evaluated more than 1,200 people and gave prescription eyeglasses to 600. A local nongovernmental organization will continue to provide glasses and medications to people who need them.
What does this mean for the community? Better eyesight can lead to better educational or occupational opportunities, which can mean a better quality of life for people.
Clubs around the world use these grants from the Foundation to make long-term, sustainable change. Every club has the opportunity to do this, one project at a time.
How do you want to make an impact in the world?

Clubrunner is Going Away - Sign up for DACdb
Have you signed up yet? Our club is transitioning from Clubrunner to DACdb (pronounced DAC-deebee) for our club database, and potentially our club communications.
DACdb and the associated phone app “IGNITE” are user friendly platforms that make it easy to find member information, track your Foundation giving and much more. DACdb was designed for use by Rotary Districts and Clubs.
There are a few steps you will need to take to have access to DACdb and IGNITE.
First: log in to myrotary.org and find “My Account” in the upper right. Select “account settings” and “change your password”. You will need to create a password that is at least 12 characters with at least one upper case, one lower case, a number and a special character.
After completing your password change go to dacdb.com and log in with your myrotary user name and select “forgot password”. Complete the new password creation and sign in. Take a look around the site and download the DACdb UI QuickStart Guide from the “Support/Learning” tab.
Next, on your phone, go to your app store search for “IGNITE” and install. Sign in to IGNITE with your credentials and explore the app. First, try finding a club member’s contact information. Next, check out the calendar and see what is up for April 20. Send an RSVP to sign up to volunteer for the Earth Day event (more detail will be added later).

Save the Date - Manson Interact Fundraiser
Amigos Unidos
| |
The Manson High School Interact Club, a youth program associated with the Lake Chelan Rotary Club, is asking our community for support. The Manson Interact Club is a group of young adults who are learning how to embody the Rotary motto of “service over self.” They are organizing a fundraising event to be held on June 1, 2024, at Amos Rome Vineyards High Blossom Estate, to help raise funds for their 2025 service trip to Jalapa, Guatemala. The evening will consist of dinner, Iive music, a silent auction, a live auction, and a dessert dash! Their goal is to raise money to allow up to 15 students to make this life-changing journey next year.
Manson Interact has teamed up with Amigos de la Aldea, a grassroots organization based in Guatemala. Amigos de la Aldea helps support an all-girls school called Nuestra Señora de los Remedios which serves 130 girls who come from extreme poverty. Many have been abandoned or orphaned.
Amigos Unidos is the name of their project and once there the students will:
- Create a new library to foster literacy.
- Upgrade the playground which provides a space for the girls to play sports and have a place for healthy activities.
- Create relationships with the students and work to create a lasting connection between both schools. They will explore becoming "sister" schools, so this is not just a one-time trip, but the first step of a long-term experience.
This event will be open to the community with tickets for purchase in advance. Also, there are opportunities for businesses and individuals to sponsor the event. The students will be advertising on KOZI and in the Mirror and will thank sponsors and donors during the event and on social media.
Your support can truly make a difference! Let's unite in supporting this life-changing opportunity where our local students get to experience other cultures and see what “service above self” looks like in action. Lake Chelan Rotary Club will oversee funds, and a tax receipt for your donation will be provided.
Please contact Camille Hutton with any questions: (509) 679-9124 or cahutton31@gmail.com

The FMSC comes with all the supplies for the mobile pack. The goal is to pack over 100,000 meals. About 500 volunteers will be working for the mobile pack.
We have a group representing Rotary already signed up for this fun event but a few more volunteers are still needed for the 3 - 5 pm shift! If you are still interested in helping you can learn more or sign up HERE, or you can contact Dan Hodge at dhodge@nwi.net with questions.

Rotary at Earth Day Fair April 20
Rotary will host a booth at the Chelan Earth Day Fair on Saturday, April 20. Club members, we need your support!
- Volunteers are needed to set up the 20x20 tent on Friday, April 19, and to take down the tent at the end of the fair on Saturday, April 20 (times TBD).
- We need Rotarians to staff the Rotary booth during the Fair.
- And we need donations of empty plastic water bottles - standard 16.9 ounce size - about 50 of them! They will be used as construction materials for Mason Bee houses, as Rotary will have a kid's area set up to build bee houses and learn about the importance of pollinators.
Please bring your plastic bottles to Russ Jones at an upcoming meeting, and let him know if you can volunteer.
