Share your thoughts on the Department of Education's State Systemic Improvement Plan: State-Identified Measurable Result
February 3, 2015

The Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) is seeking stakeholder input in establishing the State Systemic Improvement Plan (SSIP) for children with disabilities.  The first step includes selection of a State-Identified Measurable Result (SiMR) expected to lead to meaningful outcomes for students with disabilities.

What activities should the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) focus on to improve proficiency in literacy for students with disabilities?

The SSIP workgroup met on January 28th, 2015 to analyze data and determined that the LDOE should focus efforts on improving proficiency in literacy for students with disabilities as the SiMR.  LDOE is seeking feedback from stakeholders as to whether this SiMR is the most appropriate result to focus its efforts, actions and improvement strategies.

Please send your feedback before the next SSIP workgroup meeting on February 12th.

Important Information
State Systemic Improvement Plan
The State Systemic Improvement Plan (SSIP) is a new comprehensive, multi-year plan designed to improve results for children with disabilities.

The SSIP contains three phases:

  1. Analysis of data and other information to provide a foundation for the SSIP, including selecting the SiMR (2015 submission)
  2. Development of plan (2016 submission)
  3. Implementation and evaluation of the SSIP (2017-2020)

Louisiana is in the first phase of the SSIP, Data Analysis. The Department of Education (LDOE) is required to conduct thorough data and infrastructure analysis, identify the State-Identified Measurable Result (SiMR) or results to be achieved for children with disabilities, select coherent improvement strategies, and develop a theory of action.

The SiMR is the statement of the result(s) the state intends to achieve through the implementation of the SSIP.  The SiMR must be:

  1. Aligned to a State Performance Plan (SPP)/ Annual Performance Report (APR) indicator or a component of an indicator.
  2. A child-level outcome
  3. Clearly based on the data and state infrastructure analysis
At the first stakeholder work group, improving proficiency in the area of literacy for students with disabilities was selected to be the SiMR.
