Act now to change outcomes for your child!

Is your answer YES to any or all of these questions?  If so, take action.

  • Does your child share the same issue most other children with disabilities have - they can/may not pass the iLEAP, LEAP, EOCt (Standardized Tests)?
    • Can't pass? They do not graduate.
  • Do you think there are better ways to measure your child's progress and success than having one test that matters for everything?
  • Are you frustrated that teachers, schools and districts are not given credit for any success your child achieves through his or her IEP?
  • Do you want policies to change so your child will have a better opportunity for exiting school than dropping out or receiving a certificate of achievement?

Sad facts about the State of Louisiana

More Louisiana students with disabilities drop-out than graduate each year.

Kids who leave with a certificate of achievement have doors of opportunity shut.

The Good News!

There are bills that will make the needed changes to Louisiana promotion and diploma policies.

Representative John Schroder and Senator Dan Claitor have two bills (HB993 and HB1015) that will allow IEP teams to determine whether a child's score on a standardized test should be used to decide whether they get promoted to the next grade level or graduate.

Join other parents in advocating for change!

What you can do:

  • Let State Legislators know that you want to see changes to Louisiana policies. HB993 & HB1015 will provide students with disabilities a pathway to promotion and a diploma.  Start with the House Education Committee members from your region.
  • Join other parents in showing support for these changes by coming to the Capitol wearing purple when these issues are heard
    • (expected on April 23rd)!
