Let LaTEACH Know Your Recommendations for the Act 833 Leadership Steering Committee Meeting

On Thursday, February 5th, the
Act 833 Leadership Steering Committee will discuss and consider recommendations to implement alternative pathways for some students with disabilities to be promoted and earn high school diplomas.

Do you have any recommendations of Louisiana policies that should be changed to better align with Act 833?

How do you think implementation of Act 833 should be monitored?

What changes to the school and district accountability system would you recommend to ensure schools/districts are held accountable and given credit for providing supports and services to students with disabilities?

The following items will be discussed at the Act 833 Leadership Steering Committee:
  • Policy Alignment 
    • Recommendations for language changes to any proposed conflicts in Louisiana Statutes or Rules (i.e., Bulletins) with Act 833.
    • Establishment of a work group to provide further study and recommendations related to policy alignment with Act 833.
  • Monitoring
    • Establishment of a work group to further study and develop a proposal related to monitoring implementation of Act 833.
    • Recommendation of major areas and elements to be considered in developing a monitoring plan.
       
  • School and District Accountability
    • Establishment of a work group to further study and develop a proposal for school and district accountability.
    • Recommendation of school and district accountability to be considered in the proposal from the work group on accountability.


The Act 833 Steering Committee meeting will be held February 5, 2015 in the *North Dakota Room (1-155) of the Claiborne Building (1201 North Third St., Baton Rouge, LA 70802) from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM.

Important Information
In an effort to ensure stakeholder feedback into the many changes necessary to implement Act 833, the Louisiana Developmental Disabilities Council is convening the Act 833 Leadership Steering Committee.  The purpose of the Steering Committee is to provide guidance and recommendations related to the implementation of alternative pathways for promotion and graduation requirements of certain students (Act 833).  Recommendations will include, but not be limited to policy changes, guidance documents, monitoring strategies and communications with the public.  These recommendations will strive to maintain high expectations for all students and enable each student the opportunity to earn a high school diploma.

Act 833 of 2014 established alternative pathways for certain students with disabilities to be able to be promoted to the next grade level and graduate from high school.  Visit www.laddc.org for more information about Act 833.
