President's Letter
"The "CAREFREE" days of summer are at an end...everyone has returned from favorite  vacation spots...noisy, happy, laughing, screaming children have returned to school...mothers  have returned to the never ending schedule of meetings and home responsibilities. Everyone is
in a hurry. Before we get caught in the current appointments your Board wants to welcome each
and every member, new and old. We hope this year's League activities will be interesting and  inspiring to all. In order to have a good, strong, working League, each and every member must  give her full support, so let's all get out and learn and do all we can."
October, 1960.

Welcome to the 2017-2018 League year.   I found this welcome letter in the archives and I had to  share it with you. I too hope all of you are enjoying this lovely "CAREFREE" summer and are
excited for another year with the League. In 1960 as is true today, the League is at its best when
members actively support the many opportunities we have to make a positive impact in our
communities. I hope you are ready to take an active role by responding to League alerts for
engagement and participating in the League's programs. Our committees are always on the
lookout for new members and fresh ideas.
Did you know that the League's National Convention will meet in Chicago next June? It will be  the lead-up toward the 2020 celebration of 100 years of Women's Suffrage and the formation
of the League of Women Voters. (Congress Hotel, Chicago) Have an idea? There's a committee
for that.

The League's Fall Kick-off event on September 19th is "Home is a Human Right: An Immigration
Update". Want to get involved ? There are two committees for that - Second Tuesday and
Drinks and Dialogue.  Details on these, and other events, will be found in our Week in Preview, which is sent out on Monday at 11:00 am to every member.

Looking forward to seeing what amazing ideas and activities you bring to the table this year to
make this a most successful year. Our mission is to educate and advocate, so let's get out there
Thank you,
Marge Massarello
