Should Illinois Arm Teachers?
For the next few weeks, LWV OPRF members will be visiting local school board meetings to advocate for our position on opposing arming teachers. On November 23, the Illinois Association of School Boards will take another vote on Arming Teachers. This resolution was defeated in 2018 by 24 votes but is being brought up again to their delegate assembly meeting in November. You can read more about this issue in the LWVIL Fact Sheet #1. You can also read Fact Sheet #2 that speaks to the effectiveness of School Resource Officers. After reading these, please call your local superintendent to voice your opposition. You can use  this script to help you through the call. Let our local school board members hear from you ASAP. There may be only one school board meeting scheduled before this vote is taken at the IASB November 23 meeting.
