LWV OPRF January 28 Week in Preview
Candidate Forums are scheduled for Oak Park, River Forest, and Forest Park. To make these a success, we need your help. Can you volunteer to work one or more of these evening events? Checking candidates in, distributing questions cards, or timing the candidates are just a few of the spots that need to be filled. Use this link to see where you can insert your name to volunteer. Any questions? Contact Peggy Kell.

Our League Environmental Committee, helped by Stephen Morales from the Oak Park Environment and Energy Commission,  represented the League on Friday, January 25 at our table at Bite Nite, a Chamber of Commerce Event, where a sold out crowd munched on small offerings from some 50 local restaurants.  The League table provided homemade cookies baked by Stephen and his wife.  Beverly Graham, Marsha Borders, Marilyn Cantisano, Tara Joyce and Michelle Fitz-Henry talked to restaurant owners and foodies about the importance of using recyclable and compostable straws, utensils and food containers.
On Monday, February 11, Stephen Morales, in his capacity as EEC Commissioner, will make a presentation to the Village Board on the elimination of single use, non-recyclables, non-compostable straws and other plastics, as well as polystyrene containers. All members are invited to attend this Board meeting to show support for this initiative.
Mark your calendars now for the Thursday, February 21, Drinks & Dialogue evening discussion. Drew Curle, Supervisory Attorney of Chicago Legal Clinic's Austin Office will continue the discussion started in November on criminal record expungement and sealing. How does the law work and what changes have happened over the past 18 months? Discussion starts at 6:30pm at Shanahan's, 7353 Madison, Forest Park.
