LWV OPRF January 20 Week in Preview

Voter Registration Opportunities! -   This week we will be visiting Elmwood Park High School to register eligible juniors and seniors to vote. You need not be a Deputy Registrar to help in this registration since we will be using the white mail in forms with these students. We will be meeting at the school, 8201 W. Fullerton Ave., Elmwood Park, at 10:15am in the lobby to get through security (please bring your license). You can park on Fullerton or in the visitor parking in front of the school. This Wednesday, January 22, we will be registering 54 juniors and will only need 4-5 volunteers. This Thursday, January 23, we will be registering 180 seniors and will need 8-10 volunteers. Please use this link to sign up. We will be registering all students in the auditorium. Questions? Contact Peggy Kell.

Another Voter Registration Opportunity! - On Thursday, January 30, we will be registering eligible students at Trinity High School, 7574 W. Division, River Forest, from 10:15am-Noon at lunchtime. We will meet in the lobby to go through security (please bring your license). We will need 8-10 volunteers to register students with the gold forms, the white mail in forms, and online. The parking lot on Jackson is open, but the entrance to the school is on Lathrop. Please use this link to sign up for the Trinity registration.

Deputy Registrar Training - On Saturday, February 1, from 10:00-11:00am, we will be sponsoring a Deputy Registrar Training for interested members and other League partners at Third Unitarian Church, 301 N. Mayfield, Chicago. Know a member of another organization or church that would like to be trained to be a Deputy Registrar? Ask them to join us. The only requirement is that they be a registered voter. Interested participants need to submit their name and address to Peggy Kell by Tuesday, January 28.
Second Tuesday  and Census2020  Our 3-village panel discussion with Census 2020 Complete Count Committee leaders was a big success, with 46 people attending! We had 5 presenters, including former Houston LWV Board Member Dione Roberts-Emegha, now from the U.S. Census Bureau, who started the proceedings, and  plenty of Q & A from all at the end.

Still ahead, LWV OPRF will be co-sponsoring with the River Forest and Oak Park libraries two more public events on Census2020. On Sunday, February 16 at 2pm, Hilary Denk and Sihoban Greene of LWV IL will present an interactive program at the River Forest Library. And on Wednesday, March 4 at 7:00pm at the Oak Park Library, Jay Young, Executive Director of Common Cause Illinois, will speak on the threat to Illinois' future of Census2020 undercounting. Mark your calendars now and don't miss these programs!

Mary Haley and Marge Massarello represented our League and marched along with many others at the 2020 March on Saturday.
