LWV OPRF April 27 Week in Preview

The Fair Tax -
In responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, the State of Illinois and our local governments are incurring unforeseen extra expenses.  At the same time, state and local governments are expecting a dramatic loss of revenues, as unemployment rises, businesses close, and fewer people buy gas, pay tolls, and spend money. The pandemic crisis is both a public health emergency and an economic disaster. The Fair Tax constitutional amendment is needed now more than ever, both to reduce the burden on those most harmed by the pandemic and to put the state on a firm path to recovery. Here a re two ways LWV OPRF members can be involved:
  1. Wednesday, April 29: LWV IL Issues & Advocacy Co-Chair Jean Pierce and Issue Specialist Ann Courter will present the latest Fair Tax PowerPoint and share pointers/information on how to speak knowledgeably and informally about why voters need to vote Yes for the Fair Tax Amendment. After that, Jean and Ann will work with individuals who are willing to make presentations to groups. Register for this April 29, 1:00pm virtual training here. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email with information about how to join the meeting.
  2. Tuesday, May 12:  "The Fair Tax: Everything You Need to Know" with Ann Courter will be an educational presentation designed for a general audience, so please invite friends and neighbors.  Join us on Zoom Tuesday, May 12, 9:30-11:00am, by signing up here to attend.
All companion videos for the remaining topics of the 2020 Great Decisions schedule are now free to view from the Foreign Policy Association.
