The Lake Wales Library Association will mark a milestone anniversary in February. This library support organization will mark its 70th anniversary as a chartered nonprofit organization.

In 1953, led by Lake Wales Chamber of Commerce members and local organizations, a group of locals began to meet to campaign for publicly funded library services in Lake Wales.

Lake Wales had limited library services provided by the Lake Wales Woman’s Club. Limited hours and funds were an obvious reason to look to the City of Lake Wales to provide library services with public funds.

In celebration of the 70th anniversary the Lake Wales Library Association will partner with the Lake Wales Chamber of Commerce February 13, 5:30 until 7:00 p.m. for a Business After Hours at the Lake Wales Public Library.

The Lake Wales Library Association will also host their annual Love Your Library membership drive February 12 through 16, 9:30 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. A membership table will be at the library’s main entrance and Children’s Library entrance.

Membership renewals and new memberships will be entered into a drawing for several wonderful gift baskets. A special family prize will be available for a family with children.

For more information on the Business After Hours or Love Your Library Week please email lwlibraryassociation@gmail.com.
