May Book of the Month

Wilma Unlimited is a biography about Wilma Rudolph. At a young age, Wilma contracted polio and this biography shows how Wilma refused to believe doctors when they said she would never walk again. Over the years, Wilma overcame incredible odds to become one of the world's finest Olympic athletes, by winning 3 gold medals. Her determination, motivation, and endurance led to a very bright and successful future.

We chose Wilma Unlimited as our book of the month because we think it shows a character that displayed the trait of endurance. Wilma did not let her obstacles stand in her way and in fact she became extremely successful with hard work and endurance.

Visit my webpage if you would like to see a variety of activities to do with this book.

PE Equipment Fundraiser

Looking for a last minute Mother's Day gift?  Headed to the beach this summer?  Sending a kiddo off to college?  Just want to be organized?

If so, the Lakeview PE Department has a way you can do just that and support our kids at the same time!

Just use this direct link www.mixedbagdesigns.com/Retail-Home?324264   and do the shopping you would normally do at Target, Wal-Mart, or Southlake Town Center. Here's the really cool part . . . Lakeview  PE will receive 40% of all purchases!  Lakeview's ID# is 324264

No collecting of donations, no sending money to school with your kindergartener, every purchase is shipped directly to you, and all of the products are cute, affordable, and practical. Items like reusable grocery bags, backpacks, lunch boxes, make-up bags, beach totes, and more!

This will be an ongoing program that we will use to purchase PE equipment.  I will send out reminder emails for Back to School, Stocking Stuffers, and other specific events. No pressure. Just try to remember to use this as a possible option when buying small gifts or household items.

After polling the kids, the top three requests were gymnastics equipment, baseball equipment, and volleyball/badminton equipment!

Thanks for your support and remember to always use our school ID#: 324264.

Happy Shopping!

When Your Child Misses School
Attendance at school is important from the 1st day of Kindergarten through graduation from college. Research shows the chronic absenteeism has long been a predictor of dropouts for students. In a Johns Hopkins study, researchers found that students who miss an average of 2 days a month in kindergarten and 1st grade are more likely to struggle with reading and other academic subjects.

We know that students get sick and sometimes have to miss school. We just want to encourage our students to come to school every day possible.

Our school attendance is well below last year's average as well as our goal of 98%.
Here's how we are doing so far:
April - 96%
March - 97%
February - 96.66%
January - 96.69%
December - 96.50%
November - 96.67%
October - 97.61%
September - 98.30%
August - 98.53%

Service Projects
I am so proud of our students for taking on several service learning projects this year! Check out some of the great things we are doing!

Kindergarten teamed up with Beck to clean up the walking trail between the two schools! What a wonderful Earth Day project.

1st Grade sent letters to Home Depot, Watch Dogs, and School officials to get a Buddy Bench made for the playground. The Buddy Bench will be installed soon!

4th Grade will be making brochures about Lakeview and the Trophy Club community to welcome new students to Lakeview. These brochures will be printed in color and handed out to all new students next year.

5th Grade has two great service learning projects underway. One project is to put recycling bins in our cafeteria. Another project is to make goody bags for children with cancer. These bags will be donated to the Orange Out organization.

5th Grade needs your help with their goody bags. We will have an Orange Out week at the end of May. They have a goal of 500 bags!! To help them reach this goal we are asking for donations. With these donations students can wear something special to school that day.

Details will come home soon to you!!! Thank you for your support of all of our worthy Lakeview projects! I am so proud of our students caring hearts!!
