The LSAW Board of Directors met via Zoom on August 8, 2023. Below are the highlights from the meeting and reports included in the agenda.
- LSAW was well represented at the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) Working Week held in Florida. This is the first time in twenty years that the FIG Working Week has been held in the United States.
- The 2024 Conference will be held February 28 – March 1 at the Tulalip Resort & Casino. The Conference Committee has confirmed featured speakers including Gary Kent, Davey Edwards, Dave Doyle, and Brian Ballantyne. Program information and registration will be available soon.
- Executive Director Crissy Willson is working on confirming a location in Tacoma for 2025 and Spokane in 2026.
- The updated LSAW Common Law book is now available to order. The books should arrive at the Executive Office the last week of August and will begin shipping out. The introductory price of $99 for members is available through November 3rd after which the price increases to $149.
- The LSAW Fall Seminar will be held on November 3rd at Clark College in Vancouver, WA. The seminar will feature Kris Kline who will provide an overview and highlight the changes in the LSAW Common Law update. Registration is open at LSAW.org
- The Deputy Director for the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors position has been filled by Kris Horton.
- A position for LS Member of the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors will be opening when Jim Wengler completes his term in 2024. Those considering applying for the position that would like an endorsement from LSAW should contact the LSAW Executive Office by September 1st.
- The Board of Directors discussed the proposed amendments to Washington Administrative Codes (WACs). There is not sufficient time before the hearing to gauge the membership and take an official position. Instead, LSAW will poll the membership and provide an easy means of submitting feedback. That feedback and poll results will be provided to the DNR prior to the August 23rd hearing.
- The Evergreen State Surveyor (ESS) magazine is on track to publish four issues this year. Editor Ben Petersen encouraged LSAW members to help support the magazine by adding their business card to help offset the expense of the magazine. Larger ad space is also available for survey firms desiring more exposure and is great for firms recruiting efforts. The deadline for the next issue will be October 1st. Information on advertising is available at: https://lsaw.org/ess_magazine.html
- Special thanks to ESS current advertisers Frontier Precision and Carlson. Your support is appreciated!
- The Slate of Candidates for 2024 LSAW Officers is as follows:
Amanda Free, President (by succession)
Desi Schilling, President-Elect
Luke Lymangrover, Vice President
Brett Flippo, Secretary (serving first year of first two-year term)
Doug Vogt, Treasurer (serving second year of first two-year term)
Tony Chenier, Immediate Past President (by succession)
- At the November 4th Board of Directors meeting, the floor will be open to additional Officer nominations prior to election.
- The Outreach Committee held its first meeting via Zoom which was well attended. The committee will be focusing efforts on outreach to Career Technical Education (CTE) professionals, school counselors, and students. If you are interested in serving on the Outreach Committee, please email info@LSAW.org so that you can be added to the committee list. It is hoped that at least one member from every chapter will participate.
- Help build the 2022 Transformation Tool, get out, and collect GPS on benchmarks. Tom Barger is coordinating this effort for Washington State. Deadline has been extended to September 30, 2023.
ACTION ITEM: Each chapter should plan to occupy the priority bench marks in their region.
