Message from the Superintendent

Dear Live Oak School District,

We have had a wonderful school year! Thank you to our parents, students, staff and community members for participating in our community events all year long. Your presence truly makes a difference in the success of our students. Your support of your student will help them go far in life.

Together we have celebrated each other and prepared our students for academic excellence. We will continue to grow our programs next year, and the opportunities for coming together and working to elevate our students and community.

I hope our students and staff have a wonderful summer break! Whether you’re spending time with family and friends, traveling to new places, or just relaxing at home, I hope you enjoy the time off, have fun, and be safe.

Thank you for your continued support of our school district. Have a great summer!

Working together,

Dr. Daisy Morales

Superintendent

LOSD Students Perform Cover of American Authors

Showcasing the amazing talents of our wonderful Live Oak Students, this year's all-student music video will be released next Friday, May 19th. Watch our TK through 5th graders sing vocal harmonies, shred complicated solos, and just rock out with their 1000+ friends to the song "Best Day of my Life" by American Authors. Supporting their performance, collections of art designed by the 4th and 5th graders will be featured throughout the video, highlighting the best day of their lives and all the unique qualities that make each one of them special. Here are a few behind the scenes photos of our production.

You can check out last year's music video below. We can't wait to share the powerful musical work of our fabulous students.

TK, Kinder, and Preschool Enrollment

LOSD is proud to offer Preschool, Transitional Kindergarten (TK), and Kindergarten programs! Early learning is important because it helps children develop social and emotional skills, provides a foundation for academic learning and prepares children for success in later grades. Children learn how to follow routines and rules, as well as develop creative skills and build their confidence and self-esteem.

Enroll your child in TK, Preschool, or Kindergarten, and spread the news that we are accepting enrollment!

Library Appreciation

Thank you to our wonderful LOSD Librarians for supporting our students' literacy skills and love of reading! They can offer great insights into a variety of topics! Below are reading recommendations from our LOSD Librarians.

Students and parents are encouraged to participate in the Santa Cruz Public Library Summer Reading Program. Kids can earn prizes for reading!

Family-friendly events will be happening at Santa Cruz Public Libraries throughout the summer. While you are there checking out books to read, try a new activity!

Bookshop Santa Cruz has an annual summer reading program. Contact schools@bookshopsantacruz.com for more information.

About our LOSD Librarians

LOSD Librarian and Media Specialist Diana Susoy has been with LOSD for 17 years! “I feel I have the best job on campus and am in one of the few positions that get to interact with each and every student on campus. The relationships I get to build with the students in the seven years we have them on campus follows me into the community. Many times, when I am out and about, students will recognize me before I recognize them years later. It is just as nice to catch up with them years later to see what they are doing and have accomplished.”

We congratulate LOSD Librarian Sheryl Andersen, who received an award in May from California School Employee Association (CSEA) for her work in bringing together all school librarians in Santa Cruz County! She has previously received the Santa Cruz County Office of Education Classified Employee of the Year award in the past. Congratulations!

Feliz Severson has been the Del Mar Librarian for 26 years. We thank Feliz for her commitment and service to our school district community.

Our newest LOSD Librarian, Vanessa Weber, has accomplished her first year with LOSD and is giving it 100% to provide a great library experience for her students.

Along with library support, LOSD Librarians provide additional assistance to our classrooms, including Chromebook support during testing. Thank you so much for your incredible work!
