Downtown Redevelopment Project
An exciting mixed-use project, Horizon of Oakland Park, is bringing the City closer to achieving the goal of long-term economic sustainability. A blend of high-quality residential units, commercial space, a train stop, greenspace, and public parking, are slated to be part of a six-acre redevelopment project on the current site of City Hall. The project will create a destination downtown, stimulate economic development, and enhance mobility. Kaufman Lynn Falcone Group was selected to redevelop the City-owned property, following an extensive competitive search to find the right partner to bring the community vision for the property to life.
The Royal Peacock Dance Studio
|
Adam Anthony has danced for fun and fitness his entire life. Although he loved it, dancing was a hobby that took a backseat to his safe career path. His dream to combine dance and fitness into something that was his kept nagging at him, however. Eventually, he decided to pursue his dream, and in August of last year, he opened the Royal Peacock Dance Studio at 4861 N. Dixie Highway in Oakland Park. The studio is designed for adults only and is a place where anyone, regardless of skill level, can come and shake their groove thing. We sat down with Anthony and asked him for some words of wisdom and why he chose to open the studio in Oakland Park.

What tip would you give to someone who wants to open a business? | " ...the more obvious thing is, make sure you have ... some savings ... The other thing is just to echo using the people around you asking for help collaborating with people meeting people constantly, just getting your name out there, and it doesn't have to cost money; you can use word of mouth; you can use social media... and then the last thing is just efficiency and rigidity and just focus, consistent, consistent, consistent focus."
What is the secret to your success?
"...I would say authenticity, like just being me. You know... I choreograph for certain groups... what I constantly remind them ... is that the ego does not belong in this room ... [I do not] feel like I'm any better, or any higher or, or any more skilled than anybody else in that room ...And I think that's probably the key .. and it keeps people coming back. It keeps people comfortable. And it allows people just to open up."
| |
Why did you choose Oakland Park for the Royal Peacock?
" Well, I'm a resident of Oakland Park, and it offers centrality and location and accessibility, and at the same time, you know cost is a factor. I think Oakland Park is top-notch... I like the community and I see Oakland Park really working to bring things up, you know, clean certain areas up, bring on more events, more community involvement...Oakland Park is definitely on the cusp of something big!"
