Let's Give Lunch - June 16

The Local Office on Aging’s annual fundraiser for Meals on Wheels and nutrition services will be held Friday, June 16, 2023!

Let’s Give Lunch is a chance for you to buy lunch AND give lunch to hungry seniors in our community. Each lunch you buy gives you a gourmet deli meal while also giving to LOA's Meals on Wheels and Nutrition Programs.

Special thanks go to our sponsors of this event:

  • AccessU,
  • Southern Team Auto Mall, and
  • WDBJ-7 and WZBJ-24

Thank you to Vinton Roofing Company, Inc. for the $1,000 donation and Vistar Eye Center for the $1,200 contribution!

Volunteers: Let’s Give Lunch relies on the helping hands of volunteers. You or a group from your company, church, or organization can help, and have fun doing so!

A big thank you to all who donated! A total of $407 was raised through Give Local Alleghany Highlands on May 23!

These contributions support vital programs for older adults, including our popular Diner's Clubs, where mobile seniors can enjoy healthy meals, socialize, and take part in fun activities. Your support is greatly appreciated in helping our older neighbors in the Alleghany Highlands stay independent!

LOA introduces Farm Market Fresh Program

LOA is launching a new program called Farm Market Fresh (Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program) to help low- to moderate- income seniors access fresh, local produce for FREE. Eligible seniors can receive $50 worth of checks to spend at participating farmers’ markets this summer. Not only does this program provide healthy food for seniors in need, but it also supports local farmers in Virginia.

Seniors: come to one of these events to enroll or get more information:

Tuesday, June 6, 9am-12pm at the LOA Center for Health & Wellness (4902 Frontage Rd NW)

Tuesday, June 6, 3pm-6pm at the West End Farmers Market (1027 Patterson Ave SW)

Qualified applicants will receive their vouchers right then and there, and a list of participating farmers’ markets. Call LOA at (540) 345-0451 if you have any questions. Let's get fresh produce into the hands of seniors who need it!
