Living Life to The Full Supporter/Practitioner Newsletter
Helping You to Help Yourself

Within this month's Supporter/Practitioner Newsletter we provide an update about the recent LLTTF.com update. Did you know LLTTF.com is the most recommended website for low mood and anxiety in NHS England? We didn't either :) - read Matthew Bennion's paper. There's more on the dental anxiety packages, created jointly with the University of Sheffield, and - surprise surprise - an update on GDPR
Living Life to the Full website is the most used online course for anxiety and depression

Living Life to the Full is a popular website with 25 million hits a year. We weren't aware quite how popular it is in NHS settings until we read an independent paper by Bennion et al (2017 - BMJ Open). They completed freedom of information requests to identify the most used/recommended websites by NHS England Mental Health Trusts and IAPT teams.
www.llttf.com was the most recommended site by 49.2% of IAPT teams, and 47.1% of Mental health teams. This is over twice as many as the next most recommended site.

LLTTF Research trial with adults

The Living Life to the Full classes have become widely used across the UK, Ireland and Canada.  A recent research trial has found that attending the course has a significant impact on low mood and anxiety. Importantly, many of those attending were not currently engaged in support within the health service.

This study assessed the effectiveness of the Living Life to the Full Classes in the community, delivered by the charity Action on Depression.

Target group: Adults aged over 18, recruited from the community (adverts placed in Metro) and posters and web adverts in Scotland (Glasgow and Edinburgh areas)

LLTTF classes were delivered by a Scottish depression charity (Action on Depression) either immediately (Immediate access) or delayed (Delayed access arm), with 8 weekly sessions delivered, and with follow-up at 6 months.

Outcomes: Depression, anxiety and social function were monitored at 6 months to investigate whether the intervention was cost effective and useful to attendees. Individuals aged 16+ years and who had at least symptoms of mild depression attended the classes. The Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) depression rating scale was used to monitor symptoms of depression. At 6 month follow-up 59.6% of those who attended the course scored below 10 (a score of 10 or below meaning no clinical symptoms of depression) compared with 17.4% at the start of the course. Significant improvements were also found for symptoms of anxiety and social functioning. The course was shown to be effective and significantly improved depression and anxiety.
