State of the sector vodcast NAVCA Chief Executive Kevin Curley has filmed a short vodcast reflecting on the current state of the voluntary and community sector and looking at what NAVCA and its members can do to help local voluntary and community groups.

March for the alternative: jobs, growth, justiceAlthough organised by the TUC this march is not a party political event. Please tell your members about the demonstration so that people can take part if they share the view that the cuts are too deep, too fast and too unfair. 26 March, London.
Voluntary Sector Cutswww.voluntarysectorcuts.org.uk is a new website giving voluntary and community organisations the opportunity to share their concerns about funding cuts and how they will impact on their ability to deliver vital services. It is a joint project bringing together NAVCA, NCVO, ACEVO, Volunteering England and other leading voluntary and community sector bodies.
Welfare Reform Bill publishedThe Welfare Reform Bill was introduced to Parliament on 16 February. The Bill legislates for the biggest change to the welfare system for over 60 years.
Charity Commission strategic reviewThe Charity Commission has set out its key regulatory priorities for the next four years as it concludes the first stage of its strategic review and publishes the responses from the public consultation.
Transition FundThe first payments from the �100m Transition Fund have been announced by Francis Maude, Minister for the Cabinet Office and Nick Hurd, Minister for Civil Society.
RSN OnlineThe Rural Services Network has recently re-launched its RSN Online website for members working to improve rural public services.

Heritage Lottery Fund consults on spending increased funding
The Heritage Lottery Fund has launched a consultation on how it should spend its increased annual award budget of about �300m between 2013 and 2019. Deadline: 26 April.
Community Capacity Builders FundUK Online Centres has announced a new funding model for 2011/12 which will support community organisations to recruit networks of partners and digital champions, building their capacity to help get whole communities online. Community Capacity Builders grants of up to �40,000 will be awarded to organisations that have experience of partnership working, building capacity to deliver projects and helping people to get online. Deadline: 4 March.
European Refugee Fund and European Integration FundThe UK Border Agency has published calls for proposals for the European Refugee Fund and European Integration Fund. Deadline: 7 April. LankellyChase FoundationEach year the trustees of the LankellyChase Foundation set aside funds for a summer small grants programme. This year the foundation has decided to concentrate these funds on summer activities for children and young people who are living in refuges for families escaping domestic violence or who are young carers. Deadline: 13 May.
Society for the Assistance of Ladies in Reduced CircumstancesSALRC supports projects for the benefit of women in financial need. Priority is given to smaller projects where it can be demonstrated that the society's grant will make a real difference. Deadline: 25 March.
Church and Community FundThe Church and Community Fund helps imaginative and innovative projects of all kinds that bring the community into the church and the church into the community. The maximum grant is �10,000. Deadline: 30 March.
Cory Environmental Trust in BritainCory Environmental Trust in Britain will consider making grant awards for projects which relate to communities within ten miles of a Cory Environmental Ltd landfill site. Next deadline: 14 April.
BBC Children in Need Children in Need grants are available for UK charities and not for profit organisations working with disadvantaged children and young people, including small grants of �10,000 or less per year for up to three years and main grants over �10,000 per year for up to three years. Next deadline: 14 April.

DH Volunteering Fund local grant scheme - Dates for your diary The Department of Health Volunteering Fund provides grant funding and other forms of support to organisations to enhance their capacity and ability in the health and social care field. It will be launched in spring 2011 but before that DH has arranged three half-day information sessions about the fund: 14 March, Birmingham; 17 March, London and 21 March, Leeds. New approach to adult numeracy crucial To improve the poor numeracy skills of adults, estimated to cost the economy �2.4bn a year, the government needs to adopt a new approach to numeracy that focuses on how adults use maths and numbers in everyday life, says a NIACE-led Independent Inquiry into Numeracy.

NAVCA has responded to the government consultation 'Tackling child poverty and improving life chances'. See Children and Young People news.
National Citizen Service now recruiting
The 12 National Citizen Service pilot programmes are now open for applications, with 11,000 places available. The pilots are open to teenagers who have just turned or are about to turn 16 and who would normally have completed year 11 at school.
At What Age Can I...? The Children's Legal Centre has published a new edition of this guide which covers all aspects of age-based legislation in a systematic and engaging way for professionals and parents.
Positive FuturesThe Home Office has announced that it will continue to fund Positive Futures, a charitable programme that helps prevent young people becoming involved in crime. One of the reasons the programme has had its funding confirmed is the in depth social monitoring work it does, led by Substance.
