LGC News

June 2023

Changes to our Board of Directors:

Roger Adkins, after over 34 years of faithful service on our Board of Directors, with 18 of those years as Board Chairman, made the decision to retire at the end of June this year. Words cannot express how much Roger has meant to this company, or about his tireless efforts on behalf of our customers and employees. He served selflessly with a broad vision to help bring LGC to where it is today.

However, his successor, T.J. Jones, will continue in the same vein, we are sure. T.J. has been the Circuit Court Clerk of Dyer County for over 40 years and has been the COAT appointee to our board since it was added in 2010. T.J. has a proven track record as an objective, strong leader, who hears all sides of an issue before deciding it. We are very blessed to have him to step into this role. Thank you Chairman Jones, for taking on this challenge as we continue to provide the best service and products to our customers.

Beware of scams:

Beware of scam popups and scam phone calls. If you see a popup saying your computer is infected asking you to call a number, just close out of it or hit Alt + F4. This has become fairly common recently and the popups are made to look like they are from Microsoft. Scam phone calls from people claiming to work for Microsoft and saying that your computer is infected have also been on the rise.

We can assure you Microsoft will never call you about problems with your computer. If someone or something claims to know your computer is infected, they are the ones trying to infect it (exceptions of course being the AVAST antivirus or fortress systems you have through LGC).

LGC Board Member Spotlight: Mike Lockhart

Mike Lockhart resides in Muscle Shoals, Alabama and was appointed as an LGC Board Member in 2022. Currently, Mike serves the City of Muscle Shoals, Alabama as their Mayor. The agency he represents on the LGC Board is Alabama Municipalities.

Mike also serves as a Board Member with the Alabama League of Municipalities, an Executive Board Member with the North Alabama Council on Local Governments, and as a member of the Small Cities Council and Community and Economic Development committees of the National League of Cities.

Mike enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing golf when he has a chance, watching college sports and golf. His favorite types of music are worship music and 70's lite rock. His favorite movie is Brian's Song(the original). Mike and his wife, Cheryl, have been married for 39 years and have two children, a son named Aaron and a daughter named Mckenzie (Payton Pruitt). His favorite vacation destination is 30A of the Florida Panhandle, because it is his wife's favorite place.

Cybersecurity Services:

LGC offers multi-factor authentication (MFA) service named Sentry. Sentry is powered by industry leader, Duo Security. Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) requires you to provide two or more verification factors to gain access to a resource such as an application, online account, or a VPN. MFA is a core component of a strong identity and access security policy.

The need for an efficient backup and an equally effective recovery plan is now more important than ever. The time it takes to restore your data and the quality of that data is extremely important. Ensuring your office has a clean copy of your data saves time and money if your office experiences events requiring data recovery. While you may not be able to prevent the unavoidable from occurring, you can have a recovery strategy in place.

Fortress provides real-time visibility of suspicious behavior or unauthorized system changes on your network. Fortress uses an advanced monitoring and detection software that helps identify a broad range of attacks and places you in the position of preventing such activity instead of just reacting to the all too real consequences.

W2 Submissions

Attention Payroll Managers and Clerks:

As of March 25, 2023 the Social Security Administration changed the process for accessing Business Services Online (BSO). Therefore, LGC will no longer be filing W-2s for the tax year 2023 (and following tax years) and/or any W-2Cs on your behalf. You will need to register with BSO in order to access the W-2/W-2C online process. Per their guidelines “BSO users will need a Social Security online account. You can use your personal mySocialSecurity account that was created before September 18, 2021 or an existing Login.gov or ID.me credential.” The updated registration process may be found at: https://www.ssa.gov/bso/bsowelcome.htm#registration. If you have specific questions about the registration process, please contact BSO directly at 1-800-772-6270.

LGC suggests that you register now and not wait until the end of the year so that you have the necessary access before any deadlines are reached for tax form submittals.

Also, our calendar year end instructions will be made available later in the year and will include information on creating W2 files for submittal.

As always, thank you for your continued support of LGC!
